This was written by a 98 year old woman for Yorkshire Day which was last Sunday August 1st. What do you think of it?

Singing for the White Rose County

Sing a song of Yorkshire, from the Humber to the Tees

Of horses, wool and terriers, of pudding and of cheese

I know no other county where the land is quite so fine

England’s lovely county. And I’m proud to call it mine

Where shining purple heather stretches far across the moor

And the lapwing’s cry above me takes the place of the traffic roar

And peace comes drifting gently, there’s no place I’d rather be

Than this land of hills and valleys, from the Pennines to the sea

So when I’ve done my roaming, and when my step grows slow

When heart and mind assure me that the time has come to go

Then let me rest in Yorkshire, for its there I want to lie

‘Neath sun and wind and heather…and a gleaming Yorkshire sky.

I like it, a good description of Yorkshire. It makes me want to be back there.
racist - discriminates against Lancastrians by suggesting their county is not as nice. Wars have started over less.
That's lovely, and it scans, unlike so much modern poetry. God for her.
^ Good for her, I meant to say....

jno, It doesn't mention any other county. I'm sure that must be a tongue in cheek answer.
i think its very good we had our Yorkshire day in Uppermill Saddleworth brass bands etc
That is a good poem and describes Yorkshire very well. The sound of the brass bands were excellent too, The Sounds of Yorkshire have been shown on our local tv and broadcast on Radio 4 I believe.

jno don't you have a Lancashire day?
Lancashire day is on the 30th of Feb every year:-)
Lovely poem.............I was born in York and my birthday was on Yorkshire Day so I obviously agree with the sentiments expressed :-)
micmak: maybe

jno. Are you a Lancashire lass. I have relatives in Blackburn.

She's a lassie from Lancashire, just a lassie from Lancashire. Tho she dresses in clogs and shawls, she's the prettiest of them all.
I`d forgotten it was Yorkshire Day. Great poem . Im from Birmingham originally but have lived in Yorkshire for 38 yrs now and my children born in Yorkshire. Its a beautiful place. Sea, moors and fells all in one county. I love it although I would love to live in the Lake District where we go quite a lot for walking for the same reason, its beauty.
nah, just poking gentle fun, micmak. The poem discriminates against Rutland too, you know. And Gloucestershire. And Norfolk.
