Mickymoolar - as a fellow sufferer I sympathise. I did try the neti pots clickhere and scroll to the bottom answers. Don't use too much salt, I used an empty washing bottle. Do it over the bath too. Try not to blow your nose, and carry some tissues around, cos all of a sudden - two hours later for me! you get a deluge of stuff coming out. It's not really that unpleasant, bit liked being dunked in the sea. Good luck!!
I suffer from acute sinusitis which often brings on migraine headaches. I have found that cutting back on my dairy intake helps to reduce the amount of mucus. (I was informed by my doctor that the lactose in milk increased mucus production). I have found this to help considerably, and have changed to drinking soya milk instead of normal milk.

I have also found that a few regular breathing exercises each day helps to keep the sinuses open. For ten minutes each morning, lunch time and night I find somewhere quiet to sit down and relax. I then close my eyes and concentrate on my breathing. Breathing slowly in through my nose, holding it for a couple of seconds and then breathing out slowly. These exercises have also helped with my asthma.
I had Hopi Candle treatment for my blocked ears (much better than syringing) and it helped my sinuses a lot as well. That in turn has cut down on the number of headaches I get.
I learned that the ingredient in those medications that makes you jittery is called pseudoephedrine, and is usually in flu medicines and "non drowsy" allergy medicines. If you'e in a hurry for releif maybe buy some medication without this stuff for use when you cant employ come of the other suggested remedies.
