Didn't really know where to put this question apart from here.
Is there a statutory height that fighter planes and other craft are supposed to fly above houses.
Yesterday I went into the garden and a jet flew that low over my house, I could tell the time by the pilots watch.
I seem to live in some sort of flight path. They have flown so low that car alarms have been activated.

The civil aircraft low flying restrictions are described here (PDF).
For military aircraft, see here (PDF again).

Thanks heathfield for the info. I know it maybe a necessary duty for military to use the landscape for training purposes but over residential areas where people's hearing may be affected by the jet thrusts is not being very considerate.
I suppose I could complain but have a feeling not much would happen to resolve it.
it also depends in which country your living in, you didn't say, but if its Iraq and its an USAF plane, it can probably fly at whatever height it wants to.

It's in England john91; The South-East to be more precise.
I know it may seem funny but one day, after I'd not long moved to the house I'm in at the moment, some relatives came to stay and while I was standing in the garden my brother-in law said, What's it like around here?
I replied, Very quiet apart from the planes.
He said, What planes?
And at that very moment a huge herculean type plane roared over the house. Because of the height it travelled you couldn't hear it until it was directly overhead.
My Brother-in law nearly cr@pped himself.
I suppose someone might say if it bother's me that much why don't I move?
Could there be a military airfield on the other side of your garden hedge? One that you haven't noticed? lol ;-)

Not sure about the airfield but they may mistake the lines on our road for the runway.
I live in an area where the military do low flying exercises . They are supposed to have a minimum height level but i don't
think much is done to ensure it is enforced. My mother puts her hand on top of her head when a plane goes over very low, causes amusement as to how her hand will protect her head!!!!
. . . maybe she does not wish to reveal the contents of the sandwich?
