A Cadbury store has been criticised by a Christian campaign group for advertising chocolate Easter eggs as "gesture" eggs.

//According to the Daily Telegraph, the shop in Springfields Outlet in Spalding, Lincolnshire, was offering a two for £10 deal on the "gesture" eggs.

Cadbury's owners said it had "no involvement" in the promotion. //

Whoever came up with that gem needs to get back to basics.

I think I would give that shop a 'gesture'☝ if I lived in that town.

Sounds like an autocorrect gaffe that no one spotted to me 😄

is eating/gifting easter eggs a preserve of christians?

if so, perhaps they just want to sell more to multi and non-religious people?

if not, what metter what they are called?

personally id really like 'easter' eggs to be sold all year round so i could get my mini egg fix whenever!

clever marketing to sell them after easter

don't think so, bednobs, Eostre seems to have been a pagan dawn goddess; Christmas was a midwinter festival. Christians are welcome to use both of them for their own ends but they shouldn't really complain when other people do the same thing, and they shouldn't be telling people what they can and can't eat. (I take my own dietary instructions from the Roman goddess Lasagna.)

ymb; Why bring 'communists' into a chat about what chocolate eggs are called?

we've been through this nonsense before, six years ago. Cadbury turned out then not to have renamed their East eggs. They still haven't. But the fantasists won't stop inventing stuff.

I think it all gone pear shaped.

ha!

Hot cross buns are also offence to the Muslim community, so we need to ban these symbols and try to foster an inclusive society..... NO, I don't agree. What needs to happen is for the people in charge is to get a backbone and stop pandering to these people.

I wouldn't object to receiving a gesture egg. I like chocolate.

barry1010 - “… I'm a Christian and I can't say I'm bothered by it…”

And that is precisely why your religion will be completely subsumed by a certain other religion in a very short period of time.  You just don’t seem to care enough that your customs and practices are being constantly eroded day by day by day.  As a Christian, one day you will care, but by then it will be probably too late.

I’m not having a go at you.  It’s simply the reality.  Not enough Christians seem to care that their religion is being subverted and marginalised.  They’re demonstrably unwilling to fight for their own (apparently) deeply held beliefs.

They're not unwilling, they're just "turning the other cheek".

OK.  And when has that ever worked when your religion is under attack from another, more oppressive and aggressive, religion or atheistic ideology?  Oppression works in incremental stages.  It rarely happens all at once.  It begins by you taking a step or two back in order to not cause offence.  But the more you do this, eventually you’ll suddenly realise that you’re miles away from where you started and other than outright war, there’s no going back.

An Austrian painter once said, “The best way to take control over a people and control them utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible reductions. In this way, the people will not see those rights and freedoms being removed until past the point at which these changes cannot be reversed”.  Turns out, this painter wasn’t a very nice person but it doesn’t make his quote any less true.  In fact, it makes it even more prescient because he demonstrated its validity by his own actions.

SVEN, if the "Austrian painter" refers to Hitler and you believe that quote to be by him, it appears you are mistaken.
