I had the above for 11 years and so decided to for 2015/16 as in a new model.

However I am finding it difficult.  Handbrake

1  It is seems to be higher

2.  Because of left broken shoulders there is a weakness and I am finding very painful trying to pull the handbrake up.  If it is not off high enough - the car will slip therefore I am nervous of this car

3.  I have tried everything - to make sure the car doesn't roll anymore but it does unlike my old car.  Have made a very big mistake selling my last wee car.  A Mistake.   I called the buyer ( dealership allegedly)_  and I asked could I buy my old car back.  But no answer.

I am leaving the new used  car with a garage on Tuesday to see if they can adjust the handbrake so hopefully I will be used to it.

I only found out from neighbours their two cars have these "bUTTONS" FOR THE HANDBRAKE.  oH i WOULD LOVE THAT.

I did think the buttons came with automatic but they don't automatically and I would love the button/handrake for my ease of mind.

Garage said they would change - brake pads, cables or you know whever needs to be done to get this handbrake up for make it just lift about 3-4 notches.  Right I just can't do anymore - maybe 6-9.  No strength in the arm

23:42 both, no you don't need a HB with an auto, either foot on the brake or stick in P. Haven't used a handbrake for years.

Ah yes, ok.
anyway JJ, you need an automatic, love 😁

According to the highway code TTT, when sitting in traffic at night you should apply the parking brake and take your foot off the footbrake so your brake lights don't dazzle the person behind.

hoppy, you put it in P. The parking brake won't hold it in D so you'd need N too. Highway code pah! Any auto driver will tell you the handbrake is not needed. A Jaaaaag driver doubly so!

Why won't the parking brake hold it in D?

I also don't agree that JJ needs an automatic.

Ideally an electric parking brake.

However if you have to stay with your current car JJ, then yes get it adjusted to grip lower down. Follow my advice about always leaving it in gear when parked then you won't have to pull up so fiercely on the brake lever.

If you do change your car, JJ, a Honda Jazz might suit you.  It has the electronic handbrake that you want and has a relatively high seat for a smaller car, you might find it easier to get in and out of

It was you who recommended the i10, Barry.

Yes, and I stand by that recommendation.  At the time I had no idea that JJ would have problems with the handbrake.

I am very happy with my 14 year old i30.  Not all cars suit everyone, though

Thanks for your very welcome answers.  I genuinely couldnt afford automatic and it is just the electronic button for handbrake I am truly wanting.

I live not far from Charles Hurst so will make a jaunt tomorrow - I need this car (current)  to take me on my jaunts before I decide to buy this one.  I also found out that a very nearby

We Buy Any Car is very near - and spoke to him yesterday.  So if I get the cash - I may unreluctantly put the other money to the "new" car.    Thanks for your advice.

Question Author

i know there is Charles Hurst but there are a vast amount of car dealerships on the Boucher Road Belfast.

Would there be any smart person lead to me  to a Honda Jazz.  Anywhere in Belfast.  Thanks

Did you test drive this car before purchasing it?

if they don't have one in Belfast they may have one in their other showrooms and will bring it over

Question Author

no I didn't test drive it - ie like drove around a flat piece ground of a local church.  In my heart I just thought it would be just like my old car only younger.  BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE

JJ, Donnelley Group, Belfast Honda Dealers. Page should open up on their used Honda Jazz cars:

69-73 Glenmachan Street (Boucher Road), Belfast, Belfast, BT12 6JB

Zacs. Looked at those hondas but alas they had lever handbrakes

I didn't look. I assumed Barry was correct. Maybe it's only new models which have the electronic brake

Actually I've had a look and it is the newer models

https://www.donnellygroup.co.uk/honda/used-cars/16386864-honda-jazz-1.5-i-mmd-hybrid-se-5dr-e-cvt/

but they're considerably more expensive and they're all hybrids (petrol and electric).

Question Author

it is a complicated car - definitely different to my old i10.

//Get in the habit of always leaving the car in gear when parked, then it can't roll.///

I can do this when the car is parked for the night but what do I do if I am driving and on a hill sure it is impossible to park properly and usually have somebody up behind my aris so I worry about rolling back.  Yes I have put it into 1st gear but it still rolls.  No I am going to have get rid of it.

Red Helen - I have been very unlucky in the dealer himself.  He was to send me a spare key - didn't come - I priced getting a spare key and it is £133.

Warranty never came - and I did ask him could would he show me another car that would suit me - didn't answer the phone or answer emails.

However would you believe just before I got the car he had lost his partner - she died of sepsis about a month before and he has hit  the drink - I heard this from another source.  So he is grieving but I am very disappointed in him as I did give him a good lot of money and while his dealership is quite far away from me - I drove out to it one Saturday (I don't have SAt nav - as I wouldn't hear it).  Found out where it was actually then looked it up online and found he was opened at 8 am on the Monday  but another man there who knew him - said he never opens now because of his drinking.   So I am devastated at everything.  I did say I was sorry to hear of his girlfriend's death.

ps  - I didn't buy it from the dealership - he drove it out to me at a certain church the first time - hence I didn't know where it was until the Saturday.
