Ive just had a long chat wih our finacial adviser who's now a friend of many years. A very knowledgeable man. He's just told me that thecworse blow to the economy in the last few years has not been Brexit or Covid or war. It was Liz Truss who managed to create more damage in 6 weeks than the others put together.

Why oh why did she get voted in!

I would remind you this was an informal chat about the last few years, not about recovery since. During that six weeks the market was in chaos.

I really dont want opinions on my financial advisor who we trust and has helped us a lot. And who we now see and talk to as a friend. And Gully we use financial adviser because we have enough money to need one.
missT: "I would remind you this was an informal chat about the last few years, not about recovery since. During that six weeks the market was in chaos. " - no it's not, it's a very flawed opinion of someone who I'd hope would know better, that Liz truss caused the current economic situation.
The energy issues are actually not as affected by the war in Ukraine as guy might think.
There are lots of contributing factors to that.
And the effect of other sanctions is negligible.
The Truss/Kwarteng interregnum didn’t help but I wouldn’t have thought it was a significant factor given everything else
"managed to create more damage in 6 weeks than the others put together" (Brexit, Covid, war).

And was he able to explain how/why?

Gulliver, will you stop making stupid remarks that have nothing to do with this thread. Grow up!
Gullible Gulliver, maybe angry that your FA, didn't say it was Brexit!
-- answer removed --
Brexit alone has resulted in a loss to the exchequer (in tax) of £40 billion/year and a 4% reduction in the UK economy – as the years go by, Brexit will dwarf the effects of Covid, the war and Truss combined.
Please stop now, gulliver1
How many years do you want Hymie, for one, the UK's financial markets went onto make record highs after leaving the deranged EU.
Of course those record highs failed to take into account inflation, just more selective data from the Brexiteers designed to fool people.
But these are real facts (sort of relevant to this thread), not designed to fool anyone.
“ Why oh why did she get voted in!”

Tories gonna tory
To answer the OP - the voters did not want Sunak the accountant.
^^^^ He is all for managed decline - Truss gave bold visions. The pusillanimous market men were scared off. That's how I see it anyway.
I have to admit I don't like Sunak's approach and he doesn't understand the arts.

Thanks for the answers except for those that told me i needed a better financial advisor, and the first answer which I just ignored as being crass and rude, but normal for the poster. As for Gully..... i didnt report him because its a waste of time, but i see he has gone from the thread. As, i have said we totally trust our advisor after years of him helping us and as the head of a very successful company. Ĺ On this occasion, he wasnt giving advice , we were chatting about the situations over the last 3 years. He phoned to ask how i was after a serious illness.
