Not a lot of ....

Well, you know the line ...
I've never been able to find Michael Caine 'believable' as an actor.

As analogy, I can watch Only Foools and Horses and David Jason 'becomes' Del Boy for me. I can watch A Touch of Frost straight afterward and then David Jason 'is' DI Frost. If the next programme is The Darling Buds of May, I will then see Pop Larkin on my screen, rather than David Jason.

However it doesn't matter whether I'm watching Zulu, The Italian Job, Alfie, Funeral in Berlin or any other Michael Caine movie, all I ever see is Michael Caine on the screen, rather than the character that he's meant to be playing.

This might be of interest to his fans though:

Nice man. :o)
I'm will Chris on that one, with one possible exception, the original Alfie where playing a version of himself was what the role required.
Caine is one of many actors who are the same in everything they appear in - no acting or different accents required! Shall we start a list?
Sean Connery.....
James Stewart
John Wayne
Michael Caine as Alfie or Harry Palmer on Zulu
erm, no it worked for me ( he was Bromfield innit).

Remember Zoolie wasnt history - I note Caine has been back-tracking on god-knows-what - whether it is history ( no) or colonial history ( no again) or drama ( yes).

In reality ( or History) Chelmsford who survived the massacre at isandlwana hared ( like a jet-powered bunny rabbit) back to London and Queen Vic. And he cleared His Story with the Queen - who er swallowed it whole.
um yeah

DOI - it was my family that stabled the horses on their farm the night before Isandlwana 1879 - they must have given Chelmzy his last tucker then....( too much detail)
Peter O'tonk
I thought he as good in Lawrence
Quite unbelievable what either you or your family are/have been involved in, PP. Extraordinary.
ay thenk yew

credo quia incredibilis ( Tertullian) - not me ( who leads a pale and blameless existence as an OAP in N Manch,) but my ancient relations over which ( a bit like ABers) I have no control.
I agree with Andy about Michael C.
Same for me with James Nesbitt.

I am always astounded by actors who appear in different guises and with different accents in different roles.
Not that I am decrying people like MC or JN, Far from it.
Sorry I was agreeing with the wrong person!

Buenchico!
"very Fanny" - I love this scene in the Italian Job, did you know the car is still on the road? You can check it on DVLA.

Monica Dolan is another one those actors/actresses who totally ‘become’ their character.
Quite liked MC until I read his autobiography. The big "I am" put me off.
I didn't see this yesterday so happy belated birthday Sir Michael.
Congrats on reaching such a grand age from a big fan of yours.
I actually watched Zulu for the nth time yesterday - the opening credits said "introducing Michael Caine". Considering that it was made in 1964, the lad hasn't had a bad career.

"...unlikely pal Denise Welch..." say that again.

What a typical opportunity for the DM to post photos of those for whom they have no names. Mind you, I think I recognise 4th Baronet John Standing ;)

I like MC though.
