The sale of new petrol and diesel cars will be banned in Britain from 2030 as part of a Great Reset promoted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s current official girlfriend Carrie Symonds (aka Princess Nut Nut).
Is this a good idea?

Yes I think it is a good idea but they'll also have to respond to dwindling duty before then as discussed on this thread:

I think road pricing will be inevitable.
Khandro makes a good point we will have to massively increase our power generation abilities. At the moment we struggle at the ad break in corrie, what's a gazillion lecky cars draining the grid going to need? I'll tell you many more nuclear power plants that's what. So eco warriors what do you hate most? Fossil fuels or Nuclear Fission?
//...hydrogen is the obvious solution.//

How do you source the hydrogen?
yes, there is a lot of people who think hydrogen is the solution, sadly, abundant though it is, it is usually stuck to something else and thus needs energy, usually electricity to separate it from, again, usually, Oxygen, via electrolysis. So it's better to use the electricity directly. Actually it's better to use the fossil fuels directly rather than generate electricity but that's another discussion.
Nuclear is probably more environmentally friendly but I don’t really care either way, I’ll be busy using my Humvee locally and the Nextant for interstate.
when it comes to "renewable energy generation", the official figures include burning biomass pellets which are anything but renewable, and use a great deal of fossil carbon to get them to Drax (aside from the environmental damage done by the harvesting process in the US). in terms of truly renewable energy (wind, wave, sunlight, etc) only 11% of electric energy in the UK is produced that way.
Well it wouldn't be like Johnson & the ERG to take us back to driving like Fred Flintstone now would it.....

Maybe the in 2021+ the footmobile will be the only car available at rock bottom prices!

the ban was announced by Gove in 2017, when May was in charge. Which one of those was Carrie's boyfriend at the time?
mushroom, yep that whole Drax thing is monumentally bad, they claim carbon neutral but they don't count all the fuel it takes to ship wood here for one thing, total disaster. How can shipping wood from another continent to burn be carbon neutral or environmentally friendly? Madness.

If you read the OP it doesn't say she is entirely responsible for this initiative, it says she part of ( an extremely vocal one) of the 'Great Reset' of which this is one component.

Do you know what the Great Reset is?
Generating plants will need to be built/upgraded...as will most of the crumbling grid system.
Matters little. We already know that every time a deadline looms the government agrees an extension.

I'm picturing the irony of Major Whizz of the Royal Hussars rocking up outside a Toureg's tent at the start of the 3rd Gulf War in his modernised Chieftain Battle Tank,
''Excuse me Abdul. I don't suppose you have a 13amp socket in there I could borrow. I seemed to have run out of juice!"
