Both ideas are as bad as each other, but it’s very worrying the POTUS thought it might be a remedy.

And nor will anything else. Few people who no longer know everything (i.e. people over 30-ish) visit Soho. I worked in the area for more than 30 years and it is dreadful beyond belief. I spent an evening up there about 18 months ago for a friend’s birthday. It was dire. The scenes shown in the press from last night are not unusual – it’s like it every Friday and Saturday night (and most nights in between for that matter)and has been for donkeys’. The area has no particular attraction other than it’s central for most people who live elsewhere to get to. The pubs are rotten and crowded, the restaurants are overpriced and the staff couldn’t care whether you live or die – they have an abundance of passing trade. In fact that’s the best thing to do with Soho – pass.

There is minimal risk for the people in the photo. We need to get on with life ot our children and grandchildren are going to have a miserable life cause by potentially the worst recession in 300 years. On top of that there will be the additional suicides and murders (of which there are already an increase conveniently added into Gromits extra deaths for Covid) along with the reduction in life expectancy for the poor souls forced into real poverty (Not the perceived one we have at the moment).
It's quite simple, if you think you are at risk then stay in or be very careful but dont force it on everyone when they dont need it. We should never have had a full lockdown, as I have said before we should only have protected the vulnerable the rest should have been allowed to get on with life.

The schools are (mostly) shut because parents did not send their kids, not because trade Union teachers didn’t turn out.
The Government run Schools, not the Trade Unions. The Academies Which the DofE directly finance are all shut. The Unions may have been against reopening but they were not striking or withdrawing teachers.

This is what was in an email from the NEU in May.
‘… you should currently not engage with any planning based on a wider reopening of schools.
‘If your head asks you if you will be available for wider working after 1 June, we urge you to reply that you are waiting further advice from your union.’
That email followed an internal "guidance" publication that advised on the provision of online teaching thus..
"These should be kept to ‘a minimum’ and teachers are told that they ‘cannot be expected to carry out routine marking or grading’ of pupils’ work whilst schools are closed. Only in ‘exceptional circumstances’ should teachers live-stream lessons from home or undertake any video calls to pupils."
The private school system actually provided a better service that the state sponsored school system. Mind you it is not controlled by the unions.

The teacher unions are still playing politics - some are even saying schools shouldn’t be fully open in September; they’re quite happy to play with the education of our children and it’s a disgrace.
As soon as the schools opened again we sent ours back immediately; every parent we know has done likewise.

Not at all, Tomus. There are some extremely nice hostelries and restaurants in London. Venture out a little, especially to the outer boroughs, and you will find many, many, nice boozers and restaurants of all types and sizes. Lots of grotty ones, too, I agree, but many nice ones. The same cannot be said of Soho. I know the area very well - it is quite compact, being bounded by Ofors Street, Regent Street, Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road. I cannot think of a single pub in that area where I would choose to go (and I know nearly all of them!). When I worked there we always headed away from Soho towards Holborn for some refreshments. Far nicer, even at lunchtime. In the evening Soho is just an extremely unpleasant place, it's as simple as that. Although there are one or two restaurants I might visit, they are few and far between and I would only go there if I was meeting people from far and wide. It's only benefit is that it is central for people coming from all points (except the West, that is. Paddington to Soho is a bit of a chore).
