tigger, they don't give you a small does of the flu. The virusses in it are killed. Your immune system recognises it/them as a foreign body/bodies though and makes antibodies to combat......Anyone remember fantastic voyage? The immune system reacted to the girl in a swimsuit and made antibodies against her so she had to use the swimsuit inside out so it didn't recognise her. totally 60's and scientifically farfetched bit a grain of fact.

the oxford one is there - use an adenovirus ( simple useless virus) to carry into a a cell ( trojan horse) SOME corona virus info but not the bits that kill you
and my own tip for the top - isolate the DNA for the knob ( usually red in the graphics) - and use it to churn out lots and lots of protein ( easy - yeast cell and maga-yaks) and then inject the protein as a vaccine

and the main thing is - you can inject mush ( 'the vaccine') and get a red arm ( 'the response') - but does it make infection less likely ( 'does it work' ) -
and there comes a time when you inject it into er someone ( yourself - god someone must have done this(*)) or another ( jenner and the kid etc)
(*) Matlows were drowning in the war and so they designed the Mae West so the unconscious matlows wouldnt go face down in the water - and Pask said OK anaesthetise me ( using a new Mapelson D circuit) and then they chucked him into a swimming pool. They filmed it. oh and he was wearing a mae west

Saw an expert say that even if some one thought they had found one now it would take until early next year to be ready in sufficient quantities after allowing for proper tests, and setting up production (bearing in mind you couldn't just use existing production lines as we'd still need all the existing vaccines, and there would be a demand for a few billion doses),
Hope it can be this year though- there are certainly enough countries wanting us to find one
