With only two horses running, how do Bookies handle each-way betting ? Surely they don't pay out on all bets.

In races with 5, 6 or 7 runners, you would only be paid out on 1st or 2nd. 8 and above and a 3rd place will get you a return. In handicaps of 16 or more, 4th place is also a winner though, in big races such as the National, many firms will pay out on even more places. Bet 365 often do this in large field handicaps but at a slightly reduced price.

you can't bet each way on a two horse race
Really ? Most of us have been winning on the result of the general election for years !
Each way is only available on races with 6 or more horses .
if i could bet each way on a two horse race they'd both fall

5, Eddie
^ Ok Thanks. Thought it was 6 . So is 'each way' only on the first two in a 5 horse race? Otherwise it would seem too easy !

Thanks for your answers, especially ken.

My dreams of riches quickly fades :-(

Yes, and important to note that if your "Each Way" bet is inadvertently accepted for a race with less than five runners, or if the selection forms part of an each way combination bet, then the stake goes "All Up" to win. You do not get your place stake returned in such circumstances.
