While Britain's press goes hysterical over the sick drunken pranks of a few bonfire night idiots, even to naming and publishing their photographs, before they have been found guilty of an offence not yet found, London has seen it's 5th knife deaths in 6 days, making it the 119th killing this year, seems to be of lesser concern.

119 needless deaths by knife or gun, is a terrible statistic, and one that needs addressing now, not in 10 years time.

Metropolitan Police officers of the now disbanded Operation Trident Unit did precisely that. It was their brief ,and they happily stated without fear,favour or contradiction, was to investigate 'Black on Black crimes'
Originally it was set up to investigate shootings of black youths by black youths.. The unit was recalled by Boris Johnson, having been disbanded to investigate Knife murders . All mainly because of Drug dealing gangs in the black community.

You seem to be inferring that the bonfire incident should not be reported. Obviously it should. No one is equating that it is of similar degree of crime than the 115 murders, but it is newsworthy all the same.

Sadly, the murders are now quite common, and the sickening racism of burners is fortunately quite rare. Which may explain why it has got a disproprtionate amount of attention.

First may I state that I am not in anyway condoning or defending the actions of these morons but:

for all our debates, that won't stop the killings, and more families will be grieving i expect before the week is out. Khan says that it will take time up to 10 years, intervention is the key so he says. How has Scotland managed to turn things around from being the murder hotspot of the UK, the English Police are co-operating with the Scottish police on how to tackle these crimes, i do wonder if they have the solution we are craving.

But you see there IS a link, huge and undeniable, between thuggery and murder, and moronic anti-social behaviour.

Tolerate or downplay one side and you encourage all aspects of the worst human misbehaviour.

Zero tolerance is the only answer, but it must be total and all-inclusive. The Scots up in Glasgow had the 'Ice Cream Wars' a few years ago. Knives and razors were the weapons of choice plus arson and occasional shotgun.
Minimum sentences of 10years for possession and use of bladed weapons were imposed and stamped it out almost overnight. The judiciary are not helping down South.
