Magnifier Needed For Reading

I have brought home tons of old postcards from my voluntary job. The oldest is from 1903!

My plan is to value them and then to upload them onto the charity' s online sales site.

Alas many of them have writing, in swirly text and are in foreign languages. My eyesight is blurred slightly and I struggle to see the text.

I would like to purchase a magnifying mirror but nothing too expensive. Amazon seem to have thousands and I have no idea of what to buy. Help.

Just get some reading glasses.
Brilliant idea from Gromit. Just wander into Poundland/Boots whoever with one of your postcards and try the various strength reading glasses to see which are best for you. Reading glasses are only magnifying glasses in a convenient frame which will leave you with both hands free. They'll be a lot cheaper than buying a lens too.

We use this sort of thing for quizzing - very useful having the light as well as the magnifier :

The predictive text is a pain
' may as well if my cards now that I'm here'
Should read - May as well plug my cards now that I'm here.

Gness, I will have a good at that in the morning. Frankie says that it is time for bed. :-)

The fact that you wear varifocals shouldn't be a problem, so long as both your eyes have roughly the same prescription. If they are seriously different (mine are 3.5 and 5.5 dioptres) just use one eye for viewing the postcards - you probably will if you buy a magnifying glass, anyway.
Wolf....I bought all our quiz team some of those...they were bloody expensive...then another team turned up with exactly the same from Aldi! Much cheaper...I was miffed....

By the way...you had me googling Aboriginal glasses.........and they do exist!... :-)

Bhg, I am longsighted in one eye and shortsighted in the other. I assumed that reading glasses wouldn't work.

Gness, I am using a tablet and it keeps changing things.

Night folks, Frankie is starting to get annoyed. Cats are such bullies.
I wear varifocals and they are fine for everyday use, but for reading I have prescription reading glasses and they make all the difference. I get them free at Specsavers along with my varifocals on one of their special offers.
I've got a lovely one with a light for tiny beadwork when I occasionally do it. something like this :) Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
Oh wolf, that predictive text has given me the widest smile, thank you :))

I (hopefully) shall fall asleep with a smile on my face tonight. Hope you all rest well too.
