am sure we've all had the usual charity bags/takeaway leaflets through, but just had an interesting one.

A copy of The New Testament, The Greatest Story Ever Told.

blooming heck, how much did it cost this particular church to get them printed? Surely that money would have been better spent in other ways?

David McCallum was Judas.
I remember as an 11-year-old being taken to see Ben Hur, starring Charlton Heston. It seemed to go on for hours. It was daylight when we went in and dark when we came out. I'll never forget John Wayne at the end.
I seem to remember my father reading a book with that title ( ahem, not the Bible) about 40 years ago and really enjoying it. Anybody know the author?
I think you have just explained a bizarre sight I saw at the local recycling centre yesterday. The big containers for paper have slots with heavy metal flaps which are difficult to stuff things through. On this container, one of the slots had been jammed open with a bible, ( not a Gideon) which looked quite new and unread. I now imagine that a determined atheist had received just such an item of scripture from just such an optimistic church as your local one.
