Hi everybody !

Never been to Egypt before, but have decided to go later in the year (poss November) -

So, which is best for a first visit - Sharm el Sheikh or Hurgada ?

Also, is there that much difference between them ?

Any info much appreciated !

I went up north in Egypt (Hilton Nuweiba) a couple of years ago with the OH - we both got really bad sh!ts - GP told me OH she had amoebic dysentery!!! If you go, don't drink the water... or eat the salad...or the fruit...or the soft drinks (they water em down)

Okay, HF Mum, thanx for that - but I wasn't thinking of drinking much in the way of soft drinks anyway !!
What are you going for ? Sea and sand or to see the great sites of the Pharoes ?
If it's the former you may just as well go to Spain .
Do not go to Sham. It is a rat hole full of Brits. What is the point. You don't need a visa to visit Sharm, which is a bonus, but it does mean you won't be able to leave the immediate area and go on a tour.
Hurgada is still touristy, but at least you are able to go other places (not that there is anything nearby).

We go every year (g.f an archaeologist) so suggest Luxor. It is on the Nile, it is a big city, lots of history (Karnak, valley of the kings, luxor temple et cetera) and really caters for all one's needs. Lots of regular cheap flights.
We once stayed on the private island hotel called Jolie Villa, which is very pleasant but away from the hubbub.

Unless you want a holiday full of lobster red drunk Brits... then Sharm ;o)
