As the holiday season approaches and you look forward to queuing for many hours at Dover, check that your passport meets the requirements to enter the EU – otherwise you might be enjoying a staycation, admiring the White Cliffs of Dover.

You might look at your passport and see that it is valid for at least 3months after the day you plan to leave; job done – Wrong.

Prior to October 2018 the British Passport Office was in the habit of issuing passports valid for a period longer than 10 years. This was often done where a passport was renewed before the old one had expired.
But when travelling to the EU, your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the EU.

So if your passport was issued prior to October 2018, best check its actual issue date and that you are not travelling to the EU more than 10 years after its issue date.

People are being denied boarding the aircraft/boat/train for falling foul of this 10 year rule.

Just another Brexit benefit to add to the list.

Who needs Europe? The Caribbean beckons. :o)

You make me laugh, hymie. You do realise this awkwardness is down to EU regulations … or don’t you?

No – it’s due to us leaving the EU.

If we were still members of the EU, they would have to accept our passports.
There are no queues at dover at the moment, the roads are free flowing and I
Gully posted much the same a few days. Well I think it was Gully.

Hymie, you don’t seem to realise that every time you post your twaddle you’re actually telling us how pettily bureaucratic and controlling the EU actually is - confirming if anything that leaving was absolutely the right thing to do.

There is always something to laugh at on AB Naomi
"remember the oven ready chicken treaties, the £360m a week for the NHS" - how we can laugh at it all now
Boris is not a liar - ho ho ho!
This is the EUSSR being funny and their 5C mates like hymie are lapping it up. Now you know why we call you the 5C, end of.
Haaaa! Keep laughing, PP. you still, after all this time, haven’t understood the message on the bus. And you so much smarter than the rest of us too. ;o)
Does the EU apply the 10 year rule to people from every country outside the EU entering?
the EU is no more pettily bureaucratic and controlling than the UK, the USA, or anywhere else: every country wants to monitor arrivals and departures, and quite right too. None the less, the EU has relaxed the internal bureaucracy for its member states, but Britain decided to leave and can no longer benefit from it, just as once you resign from any club you lose membership privileges.

I don't know why this needs spelling out.
These regulations (and similar others) have been known to travellers to places outside the EU for years. They have also been known to those travelling to the EU since they came into force. Coping with the requirements of foreign travel is straightforward - you simply look up the requirements of the country you are visiting and make sure you comply. I must ask why anybody expected the EU to treat the UK any differently to any other country as far as border control goes.

That's their fault. When you travel abroad you have an obligation to familiarise yourself with the requirements of the countries you are visiting.
jno; because some people believed that Brexit was perfect and they don't want to listen to anything that might challenge their belief.
Who claimed that Brexit was perfect, atheist?
At least NJ is big enough to accept the truth.
Naomi; I don't know who they were, but they seem to post here accusing the EU of being bullies and that they themselves are victims of bullying. N; don't play dumb - you know what I am saying.
So the 5C are saying that an EUSSR rule that applies to any non EUSSR citizen is now applying to UK citizens? Well to quote Gen Melchett, mugger be with a fish fork!
I knew there would be lots of problems for a good few years, but voted Brexit with long term in mind and because of the direction that the EU has taken, which worried me enormously. I am so glad to be out.
