Luc Montagnier has just died age 89. They werent sure apparently ( what!). Nobel Prize 2008 for describing the HIV virus.
HIV virology: Montagnier in the good old dayes was not sure if HTLV III was the one and presented his results to an American conference where he was publicly ridiculed by Gallo who insisted with his American rich backers (*) HE had.
He hadnt. BUT Montagnier sent a speciment to Gallo and out Gallo popped and said he had found it, he had found it !
Montagnier said " Are you sure it isnt mine?" more ridicule
Gallo and his backers started legal proceedings. And in true trump fashion the lawyers boasted that the profits from any HIV research would go straight into their pockets. Yippee. Trump later did this a lot apparently.
This is the only scientific dispute settled by - - - treaty
Mitterand ( actually it cd be chirac) and the then president agreed that the law suits would be dropped and any profits split between Cie Meriel - ( Pasteur Institut that was) and an American company - half and half
years later - - genomic analysis showed that it WAS much nearer Montagnier's virus - - - so how did it get into the Gallo lab and test tubes? - In short Montagnier was right all along and Gallo was a faker
Gallo got a lab techie Popov) to say that he had tried "co-culture" - mising the two specimens and seeing what happened. and that is how the mix up (!) occurred

Montagnier get a Nobel 2008 - Gallo doesnt. and M comments 'pity Gallo did some good unrecognised work....'
and THEN 2020 - Montagnier says Covid is an American Chinese social construct and doesnt exist - - - what are you sure about that one? yup. Montagnier is the Nobel covid crazy.
