Wav is a straight file copy and is not compressed unllike mp3 which is by far the more efficent...however the wma audio format is even more compact again and the tools to make your files from mp3 to this format can be found on, the freely available to download at WinMX, Plus! for XP.
WAV isn't very good for having archives of your music because it tends to be quite large (only useful for people who make their own music and want a high quality copy). MP3 and WMA are almost the same, but I'd say MP3 as it is the standard at the moment.
I don't suppose you know a way to turn wma into mp3? I want to do the same as druiaghtagh and put several albums onto one disc to play on my mp3 player. thanks!
Hey Crazy Katty, I was having a similar frustration when I accidently got a WMA when really I wanted the MP3. However I simple just found the MP3 of the file instead. Apparently in any sort of audio conversion you are likely to suffer significant quality loss, but I doubt in this case. Check out dBpowerAMP - http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm - it's free by the way!

I've heard people saying that is a useful program and will do the conversion you require.

If that is no good however, you could also try downloading some of the programs from this site. However, they are not free, but they still have a trial period - http://www.wma-mp3.com/
Thankyou Monkey man!
