I am trying to download a huge file to update a game, but everytime I leave my computer the connection is dropped. Ive tried changing the properties to never hang up but i presume the connection is being dropped from the other end due to apparent inactivity. Is there a way to kid them I am here when Im not (the projected download time of this file is 16+hours!!), cheers

Try using DAP (download accelerator plus), it has a resume function if you lose your connection. You could ask someone with broadband to download it for you and put it on a disc or usb stick .

Downloads don't register as internet activity on a dial-up system. Make sure that that it is not set to log off due to inactivity and to be safe use a download manager as the previous respondent suggested.

One way to create an activity is to open up OE and set it to check for incoming mail at regular intervals, say, every 5mins.
