In one room only. The hearing assisted light comes on but it carries on ringing upon answering. Can't make calls out neither, also no purring noise. Works fine in another room. BT says line is ok. All connections look ok. Help please before needing to fork out £85.
If the issue is inside your house then these days it's your responsibility. Telephone works plugged in, in another room suggests an issue with your extension wiring. Need to get it checked, or replaced, or whatever. Before that though, try a different phone in the suspect socket.
I thînk the phone is at fault. Can you try unplugging the phone in the main room and pluggng it into in the socket in the second room? Do you get a dialling tone then? If so its the phone and you'll need a new one.
If not its something wrong with the internal wiring and you will probably need a phone engineer. No need to pay BT, look for a local small trader.
It could be that you've got too many phones plugged in or that another one is interfering with it. Try unplugging all but that one (leave it in the room where it's having problems) and see if it works OK then. If it does you've proved the handset and the extension line. If it doesn't swap it with one in a different room and see what works.
Thanks all. The phones do work in another room but not in the one where the problem has just appeared. (no recent changes to the set up, no pets, hungry mice or water either) it does seem the answer could be in there though.
