My headphone jack doesn't work and even bluetooth doesn't work and googling has led me to other users who have a similar problem which points to a design fault, as i'm on contract are they obligated to fix my phone?

I don't have separate insurance but seeing as i'm "renting" the phone off my phone provider surely legally they have to make sure the item i'm renting is tip top otherwise they're charging me for faulty goods which has to be against the consumer act or something?

you are not renting the phone - the phone is yours, they let you have it up front, and you are paying for it over 12/24 months

Bednobs, don't the mobile phone companies have any obligation to help the customer?
The terms and conditions of your contract, which you would have signed, will provide you with the detail of what you have agreed to, if the other side are not complying with their obligations; remind them of what they should be doing.
If you can prove that it was faulty when you bought it, then they must repair or replace it. If you've had it more than 6 months then the onus is on you to prove it was faulty when you bought it, ie a design fault. Good luck with that one. If less than 6 months then the onus is on them to prove that it wasn't faulty when you bought it. You are more likely to get a result this way.
