Freezing pdf files

Can anyone help a complete computer idiot ?
I always download a couple of crosswords from the web which are in Pdf format. When I try to do this today my computer freezes ,they won't load and I have to log off and restart.The Adobe reader thingy is obviously not working . Tried a systems restore but that doesn't do anything either .I have no idea how to download another reader and am missing my Spectator crossword fix !
We use Firefox .

goodness, that sounds an odd thread and rather unlike andy hughes. However, I was roaming the streets of the City of London most of the day, camera in hand (not for taking photos of Starbucks staff, though), so I missed it all.
Speaking of snogging Russians... after 1066, King Harold's family fled the country and one of his daughters ended up marrying the Grand Duke of Kiev, and their son founded Moscow... not many people know that. And when I tell them, they often suggest that they don't care much either way, can you imagine.

Had a few things to do downtown and as my subway train pulls up, who do I see sitting in it if not two children of the friend I mentioned earlier who had a blood filled eye a while back. They were going downtown to listen to their sister who's a politician (for the party that burns money:( so I got off at their station too to say hello to her as well and to show them a nice veggie place nearby. Then we went our separate ways and I thought "oh I should have asked them about Friend's eye". In one of my shops I saw something I wanted to give to said friend and I thought to myself that maybe the kids would be sitting at that veggie place later on and I could ask them to give it to her (she doesn't live here). But nope they weren't there. But going back home on the subway, there they were again, two hours after our ways had parted, what a coincidence. So I gave them the gift to my friend. But... I forgot... AGAIN... to ask about her red eye!! Sorry Neti!

Oh I've just read back. Sorry to hear Molly didn't work out for you Lofty .I hope she finds a good home .She looks such a nice dog .I'm sure there's someone out there for her .
I seem to have missed all the goings on .
My main computer is ,for want of a better word,fluffed ,I think. When I switch it on it just goes beep dee beep and it's all blank. This laptop thingy isn't much better . By the time I've found all the gubbins to get it going and then wires trailing everywhere.....Tut.
