I always download a couple of crosswords from the web which are in Pdf format. When I try to do this today my computer freezes ,they won't load and I have to log off and restart. The Adobe reader thingy is obviously not working . Tried a systems restore but that doesn't do anything either .I have no idea how to download another reader and am missing my Spectator crossword fix !
We use Firefox .
Any ideas ..thank you .

I'll keep my good eye on him...I asked my neighbour & her son's almost blind in one eye now, the retina operation didn't work. Scary isn't it? :o(
yes shaney, that's what I thought
Question Author
Yes be careful with that eye Robinia . Someone I knew in London had a detached retina and it never did get right again . Losing my sight is one thing that worries me .I think I could cope with being deaf but not being able to see would be the absolute pits for me.
I'm bad enough now without me specs :)
Oooo isn't it exciting. I'm on a fence too Shaney but it's worth following. The choice of alias *could* be seen as a challenge to the Biddies Detective Agency: "Rubik's cube. Figure this one out if you're so smart, darn biddies." Robi I can't figure out whom you're hinting at. Hint harder.

Re the blurriness Robi I didn't think to mention that apart from the kind I described yesterday there was another kind that lasted for months - except I'm not sure that blurriness is the right word for it. It was like all sources of light were radiating visibly - there were like rays and madonna halos around every light bulb and lamp. And if somebody wore for instance a white shirt and a black tie, there wouldn't be a sharp line between the two colours as there should be - so something to do with contrasts and contours. Also, my dusk vision was suddenly much impaired. Still is, but the halos and rays and unsharp contours are better, much better. I haven't googled cos I'm an ostrich like Lottie but the way they explained it to me it's not like my eyesight is in danger ever after, it's just during the actual detachment, and when you're lucky you're lucky and you can put it behind you.

You're welcome, Dolly. Pearl sounds... like a dog, lol (and I love dogs). ROTFL at your parents' dog with the false teeth Shaney. Chocolate and brandy mousse, well there goes my low carb diet Woofy. I loved the moment of hesitation in your clip where he says "Was your mother once... SAVED by a knight?" - subtle search for a Cert U word there methinks! Speaking of voices, what about the other Richard. Yummy yummy yummy:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM4riJR9jdU
Oh, I forgot to turn the page! Robi, if your retina wasn't actually torn as in slit I don't think you're in danger? There was a "pull" but you're past that now, just don't bounce around a lot for a while:) Well that's the way I've understood it, but as I say I never did google it at the time, I just asked five thousand questions. Two thousand five hundred actually, but I asked every one twice:)
Don't worry Kit, I've got plenty of info & I know I'm ok as it is now but apparently age+high blood pressure+inflammatory conditions aren't a good combination.
Now come here a minute....
<<<slams Kit's fingers in her medical encyclopedias!>>>

Read the woman's weekly instead :o)

well, I don't know, Robinia, my nan had a detached retina and was dead within 5 hours... sat down to a picnic in the middle of the South Circular and didn't see the steamroller... tch.
Sweedie! would you hurl your heaviest volume at jno please?

It's ok ..I'll flatten her with my Chambers Dictionary :)

Oh yes..yes... ! Richard Burton ....At school we used to listen to him on records reading Shakespeare .
You can imagine the thoughts going through my head and it wasn't owt to do with Hamlet :)
But-but-but Miss I was trying to reassure you you'd be okay in spite of symptoms you may have right now that may be similar to those I had *and that passed*, Miss, that was my point. Tut. And I don't read medical encyclopedias, I just reenact them;-) Tut. And calling your mother a turtle, shame on you *tries not to laugh*

What IS it with that voice Shaney, would it be as sexy if we couldn't see him? I almost think so *drool*
Question Author
He reads on Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds . One of my all time faves .
They haven't got any actual footage of him reading it though so you'll have to make do with this

Good moaning all - Mr N has awoken with a red eye, all filled with blood, I told him it was Ok and not to panic. That's right isn't it!

shaney, I loved the "war of the worlds" still have it on LP! it was a promotional disc. I can't play it now but it used to send shivers through me, his voice was marvellous."....and still they came!" no, that was the singing bit! Hope all biddies and biddymen are feeling Ok.
Morning...<yawns>...I can't wake up today..
Oh dear neti, not another husband in casualty corner...has he been coughing or sneezing? It's probably just a burst blood vessel, it used to happen to my turtle...erm sorry, my mum...quite often. See how it goes over the next 24hrs, if it doesn't clear & it's an infection it'll need treatment, maybe a cool pack would soothe it.
Actually I know a woman who can help....You under there Sweedie?!

Thanks Robi, yes I think he's been sneezing. Tough! My bro-in-law woke up with a bloody eye on his wedding day and it was Ok, I also remember that I had one once and I didn't get fuss or bother, so he's not!

It's 30º here and only mid july, what's it gonna be by August. Yesterday it was 80% humidity and so dripping, it's so unpleasant. Sorry to all you who would like some sun, but you wouldn't like this!
when i worked, it was about a 30 to 40 minute drive there and home. I used to put the war of the worlds on the CD and sing along very loudly. I am a DREADFUL singer but its great therapy. During December I used to have the Messiah in the car and sing abit every day. it used to take me from dec1 to the christmas break to get through the whole of it. I would love to go to a "turn up and sing" Messiah concert. has anyone done this?
forgot to add that my breeder lady who had a torn retina recovered completely and was allowed to drive again.
Afternoon England and afternoon Spain. Smells like a graveyard in here, I re-potted some plants and the soil was almost steaming in its plastic sack from the store.

I'm sorry Neti but I don't do red eye advice, it never happened to me and the only time I look something medical up is if I need to translate it for you lot. However it did happen to a friend of mine a while back and she went to the doctor and was told to keep an eye (NPI) on the development as it was vital that she come back under certain curcomstances. But I couldn't tell you what they were, she wrote the above in an email and didn't go into further detail. I think it's cleared up now anyway, I've forgot to ask but she hasn't mentioned it.

And as for you, Stikki. May you roam the blurry streets of Derbyshire for what seems like an eternity, wishing your mean little heart out that somebody with a similar experience would come along and tell you it will clear up http://i28.tinypic.com/2r7r2j8.jpg >>>>>>>>>>>
Oh no Woofy. You shouldn't have said that...
