It is with some trepidation and the hope that Douglas is asleep in a lay-by somewhere that I remind you good people that it is National Sausage Day.  The questions are ... what are your favourite sausages (thick, thin, round, square, flat, chipolata, German, Polish, Lorne, Cumberland, Lincolnshire, etc. etc.) and how do you prefer to cook them  .. fried, grilled, in a sausage roll, hot dog, sliced with beans or as a sausage casserole?  For myself, I prefer to fry them and then eat them cold.

I love a Dennys or Cookstown pork sausage, fine ground meat no lumps baked in the oven and eaten with tom sauce to dip.

I am however partial to a pork and apple with apple sauce to dip

Do you have a link?...

^^ Like that 😊

Growing up, I loved a square sausage would eat it at every opportunity.  Tried it again a few years back and blurghghgh disgusting and fatty and just boke!!!

My favourite would be a proper (southern)Italian sausage loaded with fennel. I've not had them in ages...we used to get them in Bedford years ago. I'd have to get them online now. As for easily obtained, Cumberland are my favourite. The first English sausages I had when we moved here were made in the Herefordshire village we lived in...Braughing.

My favourite is also Cumberland. Many years back, before the Diabetes diagnosis, i spent a couple of weeks o'er the border in Yorkshire re-decorating a friend's farmhouse.

First port of call was the supermarket where Ian (said friend) was buying our supplies - enough to last as long as the job. At the butcher's counter, he asked for some Cumberland sausage.

The lady pointed to the thick coil of Cumberland and asked, "How much do you want?"

Ian looked at me and my mate/employee, stretched his arms out wide, and said, "This much."

The lady asked Ian to step nearer the counter so she could measure the exact amount against his arm-span.

We ate quite well......nom, nom 😊

Cumberland sausages for me. Always put mine in the oven. So tasty! The Sainsbury's ones are good. Usually have them with mach, peas & onion gravy. Now & again, I love a hot dog with fried onions and ketchup. Yum yum..

Is it really national sausage day... Hazi you'd love my sausage casserole? I'd make a few tweaks especially made for you.

Loviningly Xx

Favourite used to be square when they were tasty, I suppose costs have forced makers, eg local butchers, to add more sawdust.

A decent link sausage is handy. Can be eaten hot or cold,  sliced in half or not,yet popped in a roll splashed with tomato or brown sauce or not.....

:))

Tomato sauce?! Devil's vomit. Mustard, good old English mustard for me.

Yes Alba disguise the sausage.... shh don't let on

11.52  Not sure about the "tweaks" - vodka flavoured gravy doesn't appeal 😊

Many moons ago, I traded scrambled eggs for really peppery  sausages with a French family on a campsite ...  best ever 🌭

Tom or brown on anything inside a roll is heinous.

Vodka flavoured gravy? I have a query, a general query, isn't vodka flavourless?

Question Author

Alba/  I'm sure the professionals will be able to answer that but, for me, it has a 'orrible taste.

Vodka gravy...🤔

Merguez for me either on the BBQ or grilled with a little Dijon mustard.

^^^ Are these available in UK supermarkets, Webbo?

I'm lucky there is a local butcher that makes them.

Sausages? They're the wurst!

Halzinny, thankyou for reminding me to get some Cumberland out of the freezer for teatime! Only the best 😋
