//"Boxers know the risks involved". Car drivers know the risks involved driving without a seatbelt on but it's still not allowed// Bad analogy. Car drivers run the risk of hurting others, boxers will only ever hurt each other.

Maybe so, steg, but I don't think tradition is ever an excuse once we know better. I am not saying it should be banned, necessarily- just that it can't be compared to other sports or activities that have incidental risks, when it is the entire aim of boxing. It doesn't compare with most other sports.
‘Domino’ lol
*Domini
Mozz - I don't see how driving without a seat belt makes you more likely to run into another car or person.
Dominoes is not a sport either:-)

/// So yes I care more about fowls than man ///

What a foul thing to say.
I can't think of another sport where the main aim is to injure your opponent. It's ridiculous.
You said it better, as ever, Ludwig:-)
ludwig - I also find it fascinating that so called civilised people can find two people knocking six bells out of each other entertaining.
Well you can’t compare it to golf ,snooker or synchronised swimming I must admit but every sport has risks of some sort
Every sport has a risk of accident. That is not the same as the whole aim being to injure someone.

Driver goes through windscreen, driverless car flips killing passengers.

I know it's not perfect, but I still stand by the reasoning that it's better to have boxing as it is, rather than have it on the streets.
Mozz - OK, crash helmets on motorcyclists then?

/// What I will say in support of the sport, is that it's taken many young people off the streets and out of gangs etc. If it wasn't for boxing, how many of these guys would've been involved in knife or gun crime? In that sense, boxing has saved countless more lives than it's cost. ///

I disagree it just encourages even more violence towards one's fellow man. Perhaps to bring things up to date perhaps they should introduce knife fighting contests, or let's go the full hog and bring back gladiatorial contests.
you can't get the lions, aog.
//let's go the full hog and bring back gladiatorial contests. //
Now we are talking, but grenades and bazookas
Mozzz...it's on the streets anyway.

I don't understand the mentality behind boxing. I could not hurt another person unless I was under threat. How can they get in a ring against someone they probably like and respect...and then try and knock them out. I don't get it.

Have you ever tried boxing ?
No but my cousin was a boxer. I used to go and watch him fight.
A pressure group needs to be ruthless now and just say:

"Right! Time for some tough talking. The gloves are off" ;-)
I think you most likely have to try it to understand the mentality, I can’t box as I don’t have the discipline needed....
