//"Boxers know the risks involved". Car drivers know the risks involved driving without a seatbelt on but it's still not allowed// Bad analogy. Car drivers run the risk of hurting others, boxers will only ever hurt each other.

Very sad.

How can they regulate it more? You can't predict brain injuries. It's a barbaric sport.
Boxing is highly regulated.

The trouble with it is that its sole aim is to damage and incapacitate your opponent as much as you can and this involves aiming blows at his head.
I'd would be happy to see it banned.
Personally I think its barbaric and wouldn't mind seeing it banned....but ....well.....everybody involved is a willing participant, presumably with the mental capacity to decide for themselves?
I'd like to see it banned too.
It should now be banned, just like cock fighting, it seems that we are more concerned about fowls than we are about humans.
AOG...that's where informed choice comes in.
Bit boring but here go's. Boxers know the risks,. If you clime up Everest expect to fall off.
The fowls are not born with the intelligence of man!
Man chooses to get in the ring and box the fowls do not they are starved and brutalised until they know no difference.
So yes I care more about fowls than man
If two meat heads want to beat the meat out of their heads then let them.

It's no more harmful to society than football and the sportsmen love the sport, so let em do as they wish. They know that when they get in the ring they'll either win, or be knocked out.
I agree. People are up in arms about killing foxes but are hapy to see men knockimg seven bells out of each other.
No pulling punches it seems ;-)
"hapy to see men knockimg seven bells out of each other."

And women too now! Seems the "sport" is enjoying greater popularity. A start might be made by dropping it from the Olympics
I don't suppose you guys have heard of UFC have ya...

I wonder how those feel about legal boxing feel about off duty police headbutting restrained men on public transport..
Alan Minter: "Sure there have been deaths in boxing but none of them serious"!
I think the occasional death is inevitable in Boxing and other sports too. Ban it outright and it'll go underground with less protection for participants.
Very true TTT, there is already a lot of underground boxing and they come out a lot worse than these professionals with a certified referee
Could be an AB poll question, yer know, just to canvas opinion....
Ban it and, as TTT says, it will be driven underground and become far less regulated. The result will be far more deaths and permanent injuries. Boxers - like F1 drivers, mountain climbers, etc - know the risks they take yet are happy to climb into the ring. For some it is a way of escaping the environs in which they live, particularly in the USA, so who are we to deny them that chance?
Maybe, but would it generate the same income without media coverage ? Maybe it'd be a minority viewing and perhaps even die out. Except in foreign countries who didn't ban it.
That 'income' you mention OG is one of the main reasons it will never be banned.
