Having been disappointed in the past from unbiblical teaching from the Church Of England and a Gospel Hall, my sins have been weighing heavy on me lately, and I felt the need for Christian community.
So, today I attended a local Evangelical church.
I enjoyed it and was made very welcome.
This could be my spiritual home for the future.
Do any of you have any thoughts on Evangelical churches?

I don't really follow your rationale, Atheist. I had hoped the scriptures would speak for themselves. Those who say there is no God are making a patently foolish statement. Denying His existence is about as foolish as it gets. But despite our foolishness, God gives us multiple chances throughout life to turn from our ways and find full forgiveness,...

That's the thing Theland, the first person we have to make peace with is ourselves.

Otherwise it's hard to move on.

I get that, ML, but e.g. if I were to kill one of your daughters and then say how sorry I am, would you forgive me like it didn't really matter?

Of course you wouldn't!
Theland, and does a fool deserve eternal punishment?

Deliberate foolishness, that is, deliberate denial?

Deliberately making an enemy of God?
I don't really follow your rationale, Atheist. I had hoped the scriptures would speak for themselves. Those who say there is no God are making a patently foolish statement. Denying His existence is about as foolish as it gets. But despite our foolishness, God gives us multiple chances throughout life to turn from our ways and find full forgiveness, happiness, peace, irrespective of merit, because the merit is all in Christ. He can cleanse the vilest sinner, yes, like the thief on the cross, when they take advantage of the sacrifice of Jesus. None of us, while we are here, are beyond being saved. He has the power to save anyone reading this post. The responsibility lies with you as to whether you will accept Him, or reject Him.
"Those who say there is no God are making a patently foolish statement."

Utter nonsense! Saying there is no god is no more foolish as saying there is no Santa Claus or there is no Tooth Fairy.

Just because you believe in god does not mean that such a god exists.
The one place I’d like to go is America’s Deep South and be part of their gospel church, they are so happy , far removed from the sombre churches we have here
Well, there you go! The matter is resolved.
I notice some fools dont like being called fools. But thats what they are.

Theland, just speak to Christ about whatever is on your conscience- the psalms tell us, He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Its available, to everyone and anyone who wants it. It would be foolish to spurn such a gracious message of pardon, peace, free salvation, and mercy. His blood cleanses from every sin.
Oh well, better get off my soapbox. Thoughts and prayers for the poor lady stabbed today in London for expressing her beliefs.

Jimf - God, even without further proofs, is the best possible explanation for the universe in which we find ourselves.
Science is part of the Creation, and therefore cannot begin to explain any part of other aspects of the Creation.
The answer is found above and beyond.
"just speak to Christ"

How do you feel about just speaking to Mohammed? Or Allah? Or Buddha? Or Vishnu? Or Odin? Or Zeus? Or the Flying Spaghetti Monster?
Hazi, why do you use such archaic language? And why do you think that fools should be punished? If I thought you were a fool I would not want to punish you for that. Have you no milk of human kindness?
"God, even without further proofs, is the best possible explanation for the universe in which we find ourselves."

As before, this is utter rubbish! You can no more prove that god exists any more than I can prove that he doesn't! You believe what you believe. Your problem is that cannot imagine that you could possibly be wrong...
Hi Theland, hope you find a church or meeting of Christians which you feel comfortable with. God will guide you, and help you through life, as he has done up to this point. Best wishes for a full recovery.
Calm down, Jim. You appear to be getting quite het-up, defensive and excited about something you claim doesnt even exist. This isnt the rationale and logical mind of a clear-thinking human being ;) Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Spungle, do you believe that it is right to punish the stupid?
