If there is a God, why has such a supposed loving almighty allowed such a tragic event to happen.

There is quite a contentious thread been going on all day on this tragedy.
To answer your question. Perhaps it was a warning to others who may try to chance their arm by dealing with evil people smugglers and enter illegally.
Time and a Police investigation will tell.Hopefully :-(
No easy answer. My take on the suffering question is that God has given us all freewill, and free will means we can choose to act in evil and cruel ways.
If God was to intervene and stop us it would in effect take away our choice and free will
//If God was to intervene and stop us it would in effect take away our choice and free will//
Codswallop on so many levels.

All through the Bible (for those that have bothered to read it) God continuously intervenes and interrupts mans free will. He hardens peoples hearts so that they will not do as requested. He sends deceiving spirits to, well, deceive people! He allows Satan to appear as an angel of light to also deceive people.
He regularly intervenes on behalf of his chosen people in the Old Testament and thwarts his enemies. He regularly kills enemies (in spite of their choice and free will) and sometimes even kills those that root for him.
And to top it of he totally ignores those that ask him for help...

I just wondered if fiveleaves was supposed to be fiveloaves!

For the Godly and the not so Godly.

Why is mankind so vile?

More than that why do some expect a being they don't even believe in to hold their hand and stop them being cruel or pick up the pieces when they are.

We don't!

@retrocop...I am aware of the thread which is going somewhat off course.

@fiveleaves.....What is this rubbish about free will.? From where does such a believe originate.?

Hans
Good answer Mamya ^^^
Good.

Wasted question by the OP then.
Hans - the bible.
Question Author
@Theland....Please spell it out to me.

Hans
Mankind is at his worst when trying to impose what he thinks, is his "gods" will over the unbelievers or rival believers.
Genesis - Adam and Eve had a choice. Obey God or please themselves. They chose the latter.

@Mamyalynne.....Please explain further.

Hans.
/// ... a Police investigation will tell. ////

For one moment I thought you meant it will tell is why God allowed it - that would be interesting, a Police investigation into the existence of God - LOL.
39 die - my reaction was immediate horror - my second reaction was not to see who I could pin the blame on apart from the humans that brought this event about.

I have always been responsible for my own actions, we all are.

@Theland.....I know you believe in God but I didn't think that you were naive enough to accept the stories of Adam and Eve.

/// Why is mankind so vile? ///

Not half as vile as some of God's other creatures. A significant proportion of "mankind" is far from vile anyway.
There are people that still believe in Adam and Eve?
The mind bogles...
Of course not all are vile, apologies - I keep forgetting to spell everything out minutely.
