Faith appears quite often in this topic.

Today I came across an interesting quote from the American Philosopher Eric Hoffer

Absolute faith corrupts as absolutely as absolute power

I can certainly see some truth in that. Can you ?

People certainly seem to get stuck in faith and can then go to further. It depends what you mean by "power" I think x
No further... sorry
Without doubt.
Absolutely...
Absolute faith is the refuge of the unbalanced.

Faith + power corrupts.
George Michael said you've got to have it. I don't.
Faith in what, in who?
Faith in myself. Nothing else is needed.
" Faith in what, in who?"
Only the weak need faith in something, they require an emotional crutch.
Faith in God who desires order and our well being, is not needing a crutch.
It is, Theland. There is no obvious reason to believe it, unless you want to.
For me, a believer in God because of evidence, obedience to Him is not negotiable.
Evidence... ?
And as we come to the 359th degree of the circle, we're almost back to the beginning. What is your evidence?
Europe was plunged into the Dark Ages last time faith took over from reason.
Faith is ok as long as one is aware that it may be misplaced.
In fact I consider it important.

There ain't no more, you've taken everything
From my belief in Mother Earth
Can you ignore my faith in everything
'Cause I know what faith is and what it's worth
Faith is fine if it doesn’t govern life. I think most embrace a simple faith, hoping that in times of trouble 'God' might help them, and trusting they will, after death, be reunited with their long lost loved ones – a rather beautiful concept. I see no harm whatsoever in faith that brings gentle comfort. I do, however, abhor faith that makes demands and that instils fear. All the talk of ‘free will’ and the love and justice of God is, with that kind of faith, irrelevant. People who are afraid of offending ‘God’ lest punishment ensues don’t have free will and those governed by duress have no love for their oppressor. Claiming to love God, in those circumstances, is a lie.
Faith is belief in something for which there's no evidence, so it's already a corrupted position to take even before it causes you to start doing anything nutty.
I have faith that the mods will ban spammers here.
Ah, but that means there's no evidence that it is so, so I'd better watch myself before I start doing something nutty :-)
Vulcan - Let's turn this around.
What evidence do you have for the opinions that you hold?
