How foolish it would be for you to spend all your time accumulating wealth and power as the world does.

To see a lifetime spent amassing wealth is a lifetime wasted. Jesus wisely reasoned: For what benefit will it be to a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his soul? or what will a man give in exchange for his soul -Matt. 16:26.

A wealthy King spent much of his time acquiring homes, gardens, provinces and all sorts of luxury and he concluded that : I looked at everything done on earth, and I saw that it is all a waste of time. It is like trying to catch the wind-Eccl. 1:14.

Was it a job? I thought it was a partnership with a buxom woman who happened to own a riverside inn.

You know if God is an incomprehensible a mystery to you, then why even try to get to know him.

But if years later, on the day of your death, will you have made a good name with God.

That something that you did not possess on the day of your birth.
Well If you have a name with God,he will remember you when he resurrects the dead to life, as Prov. 10:7, says .

And you if you go on about time again, king Solomon spoke of 28 different things, each of which has its appointed time. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

An understanding of the meaning and implications of what Solomon said will help you to determine the right time and the wrong time for certain actions, as viewed by God. (Hebrews 5:14) That, in turn, will allow true follower to pattern our lives accordingly.
I know that I'm in God's good books. It's the goodly unGodly that causes me sleepless nights. I worry about them.
//How foolish it would be for you to spend all your time accumulating wealth and power as the world does. //

Those are almost the exact words of my ex neighbour . He , lives in a 4 bed house , is God's gift to women , has 4 sons and 2 daughters, has a BMW estate car, he is very patriotic, supports all UK teams wherever they play in the world, . The beauty of it he has been unemployed for over 20 years but as he says God has always provided his needs.

Good for him, but like said anything that is worshiped can be termed a god to him,

BUt there's a down side even in that seemingly idyllic life. England never seem to win the penalty shoot-outs.
// Was it a job? I thought it was a partnership with a buxom woman who happened to own a riverside inn. //

I don't think he was a salaried employee, but he earned his keep by working at the inn and seeing off violent bullies. I'm just going by my memory of the John Mills film.
"It's the goodly unGodly that causes me sleepless nights. I worry about them."
But some of us unGodly aren't goodly, Sandy.
Question Author
All I can say if you experience sleepless nights. Then, like the psalmist, you can view such troubling times as an opportunity to express your concerns to God. (Psalm 63:6)

Experience has taught me that it takes endurance and patience to help people get to know the true God.

What a great plot,
With his constant C & P sermonising goodlife is getting us all to read far more JW witterings and religious text than we ever would in a normal day to day existence!

Baldric -How can a person be joyful if hatred and destructive feelings are bottled up inside of him.

Yet again!

Indeed, how can a person be joyful if hatred and destructive feelings are bottled up inside of him?
Peter Pedant...you are right, so here is a proper post.

This is religious drivel.
mikey love it !

from which we can conclude - Loeb's Theorem

"This is religious drivel" is drivel

and Mikey - my conclusion is that it might well be....
Oh Goodlife - you are not a good quoter

you say: To see a lifetime spent amassing wealth is a lifetime wasted. Jesus wisely reasoned: For what benefit will it be to a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his soul? or what will a man give in exchange for his soul -Matt. 16:26

I say Mt 16 . 26 is : For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

"To see a lifettime spent......." is not Jesus, it is Hem hem Goodlife
Jesus doesnt wisely reason in the NT - Goodlife does.....oops

I fare even worse with Eccl 1:14 ( and even wondered if it were Ecclesiasticus - it isnt ) which I think is :
I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Nothing about a wealthy king- homes, provinces - all that is you GL putting it in 'context' the only thing is: it isnt the context if you look it up.
So you have quoted out of context and not made clear what is OP and what is Goodlife.

Goodlife you do yourself absolutely no good in adding to biblical quotations
even if they sound Good to yourself.

Naughty boy !

Mt 16 is clearly apocalyptic - it goes onto predict the coming er coming of the Messiah. so the shroud comment (no pockets) is better placed and at least the poster doesnt say it is in the Bible.

To think that the whole of AB might have flocked to Church this SUnday at your say-so and then picking up the Good Book found it is more like the Good Goodlife Book.

Fie !

Goodlife, //How can a person be joyful if hatred and destructive feelings are bottled up inside of him. //

You surely are the most qualified here to answer that.
Question Author
TPeter Pedant //Mt 16 is clearly apocalyptic// No!

Jesus did not come to earth to give us health, wealth, and a long life in this world. He came to open up the opportunity of living forever in the new world.

Matt 16 v 26 Jesus is asking two thought-provoking questions - “Of what benefit is it for a man to gain the whole world and to forfeit his soul?” and, “What, really, would a man give in exchange for his soul?” The answer to the first question is obvious from a human standpoint. It is of no benefit for a man to gain the whole world if he loses his life, his soul. Possessions are useful only if one is alive to enjoy them. Jesus’ second question: “What, really, would a man give in exchange for his soul?” might have reminded his listeners of Satan’s allegation in the days of Job: “Everything that a man has he will give in behalf of his soul.” (Job 2:4) For some who do not worship Jehovah, Satan’s words might be true. Many would do anything, abandon any principle, just to stay alive. True Christians, though, view things differently.

Naomi //How can a person be joyful if hatred and destructive feelings are bottled up inside of him. //

I don’t have feelings of hatred and destruction. I just have pity for you all because you don’t have the wonderful hope and prospect of life in a world where there will be no hatred, disunity, violence, fear, hunger, poverty, disease and death.

Mickey 4444 //This is religious drivel.//

Then don’t read it! I am not forcing you to read it, if you do then that is your choice and no one else’s.

"To see a lifetime spent amassing wealth is a lifetime wasted."

That's Cliff Richard stuffed then!
goodlife, please comment on people such as Bill Gates who have amassed great fortunes and have used the money to alleviate more suffering then you and your religious zealots ever will.
Question Author
He may well donate to charities etc. So have many rich people in the past. But have they alleviated the suffering? No.

Bob Geldof was astounded some years ago when he went to see what the money he raised had done for the starving. It did nothing. So money can only help to a small degree.

There is no “quick fix” in this world. Besides, you have absolutely no idea what soever about what JWs do behind the scenes. We do not advertise.

At the end of the day, people like Bill Gates cannot give everlasting life in a world without any fear, hunger or anything else that plagues the world today. (Rev 21:3-4)

And that’s my last word on the matter. Case closed.
