He Won’t Put Our Tree Up This Weekend : (

Every single year we go and buy our real  Christmas tree at a certain garden centre, bring it home and then decorate it, plus put all the other decorations up. Admittedly I do 95% of it but I love doing it. This has been a particularly hard year pain-wise, which has rapidly worsened the last 2 weeks, but was looking forward to this tomorrow. But just mentioned to MrSmow about getting our tree tomorrow & he said 'it's far too early! Not till nxt weekend'. I said we ALWAYS get it 1st weekend..... he just denied it point blank and said no we don't. He absolutely isn't budging on this, and I know it's a petty point, what with everything going on in the world, but it's only once a year and I really look forward to it. I can't get it myself, let alone get it in car/house on my own, and besides, I enjoy choosing the tree with him. I know I sound childish, but seeing as I'm not even asking him to decorate it, just choose it with me & bring it home, I don't think it's too much to ask. Why he is being so stubborn about this I genuinely don't know. I've even gone thru all the photos on my iPad of last year and there is it, 1st weekend in December, and the tree being decorated! : (

Now awaiting all the comments telling me to grow up lol..... but I don't have many things to look forward to at the mo, this was just one of them.

He's right - far too early to put the tree up!

Perhaps he's just not in the mood, Smow..

Maybe brainiac, but it's something we've done for 19yrs. And maybe Patsy - but he never is lol.

My OH moans every year about it, yet, he stills concedes as he knows it's easier.

Perhaps he's baulking at being so predictable - just look at it as another week of exciting/eager anticipation. It's not worth falling out over.

Mine too, rocky, but in a light-hearted way really.  He even wears the hat I bought him bearing the legend 'Bah!  Humbug!'  :o)

Too early for us.  A week before or two at the most is time enough.

S, would it ou like to put the tree up. ? Surely you don't require his permission .

// I can't get it myself, let alone get it in car/house on my own//

lol naomi mr mally has a black bah humbug hat and i'm sending him up the loft later to get the decorations so that will make him happy ....not x

Sorry, I've just reread your post, he's a miserable grump, what harm would it do. It's obviously something you enjoy.

As I write this my wife is decorating the Christmas tree.

I lose this particular debate yearly, so happy wife, happy life.

Well one of you has to budge. And neither of you controls the other.

Your best bet maybe to enjoy amother 7 days of looking forward to in next week. If he relents then so be it.

Considering he's busy with work I'm not going to give him a hard time - I'm going to put up the other Xmas bits n bobs  have for indoors, and the little fibre optic tree for hall way etc..... if he wakes up tomorrow and suddenly feels like going to get it then great, if not then nxt weekend it is....... pointless making him go tomorrow if he's not in the mood.

Smowball, can you not look at it the other way round? He's gone along with your timetable for 19 years, maybe he can have a chance to choose?

Hi Neveracrossword. I don't even know how we ended up in the '1st weekend in December' routine tbh lol - it's just become a tradition. But yes, I agree, maybe he'll be a bit more festive next weekend !

Thanks, Smowball. I too like traditions, but only if they're ones that everyone is happy with!

Unless he's doing something really important tomorrow, surely a trip to the Garden Centre won't interfere too much with his time?  He knows it means a lot to you so I think he's being awkward. x

I really think you have to be in the right mood for Christmas and everything that comes with it, and I think that perhaps Mr Smow isn't feeling it yet.

My daughter was up in my loft today and she asked if I wanted my decorations coming down and I said no, leave it another week.

Put up as many bits and bobs as you can manage Smow but don't overdo it. Perhaps seeing some of the Christmassy things about might put him in the mood for tree shopping over the weekend.

Don't fall out about it.x

Mr Smow has said 'It's far too early', so the thought of 20+ days of a tree might be a few days too many for him (it would for me). I give equal weight to each party's viewpoint...

I'm glad I don't have to start a new thread about this..
the C word (it's not my thing) people seem to enjoy it
all the magic and sparkle etc etc. I question all of our
'traditions' (for another discussion maybe who knows)
lost in the dim and distant past, their origins blurred.

Study the posters I have concluded the following F bias..
F M F F ? F F F M M F and me M (Canary42 I'm not sure).

I am pleased the last post from Neveracrossword is
'I give equal weight to each party's viewpoint...'

I do subscribe to respect and equal validity of views,
but we all have opinions and beliefs we hold as true.
I have just found this news item that says what I've
been thinking for some time.. is it the case that the
'commercial forces' are pushing for an earlier start
to whichever celebration comes next in the shops..

To quote the news item
'Traditionally, Christmas decorations should go up
on the first day of Advent, which this year is 3rd
December, the fourth Sunday before Christmas.'
