Historically disgraced military officers accepted a loaded revolver from a brother officer and retired to their room.
Is such a practice appropriate today?

Choux got autocorrected
I have no respect for him, other than his service in the Falklands. I do worry what affect any outcome may have on The Queen.

lol, cloud fitted well as an autocorrect though it did leave your question so far open ;)

It would seem that the court of public opinion had already found him guilty. He could best serve his family and the country by fessing up and completely going to ground.
Quite, but which country would give him the ground? The paparazzi would have a field day, literally!
Andrew is a Scottish name, isn't it? Here's a suggestion then:
The Queen invests Andrew as Prince of Scotland.
She then grants independence to Scotland.
This is a win, win, win. The UK gets rid of Andrew, the Scots get their independence, Andrew gets to feel important and Sturgeon stops going on and on about independence.
choux - // Quite, but which country would give him the ground? The paparazzi would have a field day, literally! //

There will be a pap feeding frenzy wherever and however he finishes up, but the nature of the beast is that tabloid interest is as brief as it is intense, and he would eventually simply fade from public consciousness.
Just a couple of issues there. :-)
McMouse - // It would seem that the court of public opinion had already found him guilty. //

Indeed they have.

This is due to a combination of factors -

The effect the overshadowing of these events is possibly going to have on the Queen's Jubilee, although to be fair that is simply unfortunate timing, rather than his fault.

His avoidance of responsibility in dealing with this properly - and that is probably down to lousy legal advice.

His own record for bad judgement and bad behaviour which has left him probably the must unpopular royal.

His breathtaking lack of judgement evidenced not only in his utterly unsuitable choice of friends, but also in his handling of the Newsnight interview, which is going to hang draw and quarter him if he has to go to deposition.
No and it wasnt then either
Famous people failed the challenge

Dreyfus declined (1890s) on the good grounds he hadnt done what he was convicted of. Esterhazy who had ( done it) failed to do the decent thing. I wonder why.

Leader of the Brown Shirts (Rohm) failed to (night of the long knives 1933) and said instead - kiss my backside. More to this story

Hector McDonald VC did. He kissed an enlisted stablelad who said 'Pay me or I'll tell'. He did. Tell. Hector M read of his misdeeds in the Times and shot himself in Nice. ----- (shot himself in the knees? did heeeee ) no I know this is AB But he shot himself in a town called Nice

Petain 1940 ( The victor of Verdun) didnt shoot himself. He instituted the War Guilt Trials ( Proces de Riom) 1942 Daladier Gamelin Blum were indicted and didnt shoot themselves either. They looked at who was responsible for the Chute de France juin 1940 - defaite meme. When the question arose - who was Min Defence and why didnt he re-arm? The answer came up - Petain.
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proc%C3%A8s_de_Riom

I dont recollect Lord Thingey shooting himself over the Falklands

or Smuts 1900 - didnt he join the British 1914 (my father was at primary school with smuts son) 1910

so.....// disgraced military officers accepted a loaded revolver//
history shows that the military officers didnt use it and said things like
defeat - no I saw the troops running away, and thought the tea bell had gone......

charge of he light brigade - Lucan might have been asked 1860
he certainly denied att the later inquiry he had done anything worng
Memo to self
I must make my answers shorter
Foo! and Foo-no! sound SOOOOOO much more eloquent
and carry as much weight

obvious troll innit?
o god I try not to cloud
pity
the randy one
I thought you meant the Bonka of Downing St.,

sorry to talk in engimatic inscrutable riddles

The Jade Concubine ( Boxer 1897) didnt strangle herself and cast herself down a well - someone did that to her ( prince Ning most like - Kung. Pow someone)
BA bhg - good breadth of lateral thinking there
thinking far ourside the box....
Trial by jury, if appropriate, and if not it should be entirely up to the individual to decide if suicide is their want, and external encouragement should be viewed as potentially criminal.
I think you are taking this too seriously 7up
bhg, the Scots might have to change their patron saint ;)

McMouse, it isn't just about the public's feelings though. Some of the military would like to be rid of Andrew's association.
The crux of your OP lies within the title word "Honour".

a_h @ 15:13, You seriously do not believe the press would have a brief interest in him?

a_h @ 15:17, you have omitted to mention his arrogance and greed.

There is said to be strong feeling in Grenadier Guards that he should be removed as Colonel before they Troop the Colour.
As a former Royal Marine it was a great relief when
Prince Harry relinquished the Commandant General role.
