Well, goodlife, you ask “What do you believe is needed to bring an end to pain and misery for all?” The Buddha, several thousand years ago, taught that humanity’s suffering was largely due to ‘attachment’, i.e. people’s insatiable desire for things.
Once you overcome that, and (simplifying drastically) adopt a ‘take it or leave it’ attitude to worldly possessions and desires, you have a chance of self-realization and less suffering.
Not sure how this ties in with Christianity, but I suspect there are more similarities than differences.
