says Miranda Yardley, who transitioned ten years ago. Absolutely right, say I. A breath of fresh air in an increasingly politically correct world. What say you?

"People have to go somewhere. " - yes jim, ladies in the ladies and gents in the gents, seems to have served us well up to relatively recent.

Jim, allowing men into women’s facilities is not a compromise solution. It’s detrimental to women. No one is denying men access to rather important public facilities. Men’s facilities are very often more plentiful than women’s.
jim - you seem to be talking toilets rather than changing rooms. If you think you are a man and dress like a man you use men's toilets, as seeing a man using a urinal shouldn't bother you. If you think you are a woman and dress like a woman, you use the ladies' as their toilets are all completely contained, so pretending to be a woman for a crafty peep won't work.
I'm assuming the changing rooms being discussed are in shops, used for trying-on clothes. It's a long time since I've used communal changing rooms for sport, so I haven't a clue what they are like nowadays.
I suppose it may be considered "fun" to use the gender neutral loo and pee all over the seat. . (^_*)
But what about FTM transgenders, Naomi? Are you happy to share a bathroom with this woman, for instance?

The news item is from " the sun " I'll give that a pass .!!
Question Author
Jim, no, I wouldn't be happy to share a bathroom with that person either.

bhg, quite a number of shops don't have cubicles - just communal rooms where women try clothes on. I imagine the men's changing rooms in those stores are similar.

anneasquith, too intellectual for you? ;o)
How would women feel about a lesbian working as the bra fitter in a department store?

I didn't think any store had communal changing rooms these days, I thought they all had cubicles with at least a curtain.
"Jim, no, I wouldn't be happy to share a bathroom with that person either. "

Well, tough. That's the choice you made, after all, when insisting that "once a man, always in the gent's". You can't have it both ways.
Question Author
Jim, I didn't suggest I could have it both ways - but that wasn't your question.
naomi - I've never been in a communal changing room in a shop. I had no idea that they existed.
Question Author
bhg, They do - but I won't use them. I'd rather shop elsewhere.
It's a tricky one isn't it.

If in the future people can just decide what gender they're going to be, basically just by declaring that they identify as one or the other - or indeed neither - it has implications for lots of things.

Society has up to now been organised around the fact that there are two sexes, male and female.
according to press releases concerning changes proposed to the gender recognition act, gender identity will be as simple as a self declaration, with all medicalization (per the current act) removed. just wonder if the government, in hijacking this popularity morsel from Jeremy Corbyn and jumping on the bandwagon with it, has given the implications any thought?
If you have to "clean" the seat before you pee you are a Woman, If you have to "clean" it after you are a Man. :))
It really wouldn't worry me. I'm not going to get into a rights or wrongs slanging match about it but the idea that suddenly fitting rooms will be populated by weirdos and perverts is just absurd.
Men clean toilet seats. News to me;-)
Gender neutral, non-racist, egalitarian, pacifist chess set : 32 grey pawns, all on the same side.
Any "transgender man" thinking it's fine to use a female changing room, should automatically be barred for proving he doesn't understand or think like a female...
I never liked the open plan/no cubicle changing rooms and stopped using them when they came out.

If there are cubicles, it may not be too bad.
