my back itches like crazy. The doc just said it was just dry skin and prescribed
me some moisturiser which has hardly helped at all. It also feels like its
burning as if I'd caught the sun , but I haven't. I haven't used any new soaps
or detergents. Could it possibly be hormonal? I've even cut all the labels out
of my tops because the slightest thing sets it off.

Could be hormonal or something to do with liver imo, perhaps others will have ideas to help you out, it must drive you mad poor you.
hi cupid04, e45 (Itch relief cream) is very good
You could just simply need to exfoliate and moisturise difficult to do your own back I know, but I get help and I use dead sea salt to exfoliate - you could try a dry body brush - I had to switch to a very gentle soap powder for my clothes as my skin itched like crazy (Surcare). Another source of itchy skin could be any medications you are taking. I have to take diclofenac for my arthritis and it can make my skin itch if I'm not careful.

Strange you should say about exfoliating, Nungate, my doctor suggested
getting a loofah [i thought she was joking] Mr. cupid helps put the
moisturiser on. Couldn't do that by myself, would have to be a contortionist!
I Know my kidneys are ok because I've just had the full function blood test
which came back all clear. Have the blood test done regularly because of
blood pressure meds. the only arthritis med is a gel i use nightly on my hands.
Don't know if it has the ingredient you mention.
Many thanks for all your replies.
I get very itchy when a bit tired and run down or feel under pressure about something; could that sort of thing be a factor at all?
Question Author
Yes I do get stressed, I suppose it could be a factor. I suppose I should be
happy it's only my back! Probably end up going back to the doctors or asking
the pharmacist for advice.
Yeah; mine is usually my boobs and inside of my thighs; not socially acceptable to scratch away at those in public!
Question Author
You've made me laugh, well at least you've made me less stressed, lol!
My back started itching tonight. Then it got really bad. BUT the good news was - I found my pet porcupine. He was hiding behind the cushion !
Haha; I'm good for something then! Hope it feels better soon!
I get that Sophie on the inside of my thighs and backs of my hands. I've wondered if it's stress related and you're right, tearing at my thighs is not particularly ladylike!
I also find that if I do indulge in scratching (in privacy of own home of course!) I end up with blotchy marks that look not too dissimilar to love bites; don't want to be trying to explain that to MrS!
My pet porcupine is loving these posts !
I can imagine!
I've had exactly the same thing, cupid. It started in about May, drove me bloody crazy - its in the part of my back between shoulder blades. It has eased a bit as the months have gone by. I think its prickly heat under the skin...........you have my sympathies...{:o(
Question Author
Thankyou SandyRoe, most helpful! lol!
Question Author
If it was prickly heat , wouldn't it affect more than just my back?
I get prickly heat on just my arms if I get too much sun; don't have much luck with itchiness!
I get it too cupid, one question - why is it always a part of your back that you just can't reach? I find a hairbrush is a good back scratcher!
