douglas, are you thinking of TTT? Or are there in fact two planet-sized brains on AB?
Looks like there are two, jno, we are truly blessed.
One of which has no idea of what is being discussed without a link supplied
LOL
Having an IQ greater than 86% of IQ test takers provides no assurance that you wont do something really stupid, especially if that's your only assurance that you wont do something really stupid sooner or later. Don't ask me how I know that.
How do you know that?

Naughty woofie
IQ - so long as you dont believe in them are made to be normally distributed - bell shaped

so having made them that ( done a series of math operations on the numbers so they are now bell shaped ) you can fairly ask - what do they mean ?

not an awful lot

You can learn them ( so they dont have interpersonal validity ) so your IQ rises the more you do the tests ( hence what do they mean - no one is gonna say you get more intelligent in 3 days)

and they dont have content validity.... ( what do they measure)

other than that - - - well done

[sozza - my crappy accountancy exam board AAT has just written to me saying my half qualification has no meaning. I wish to write to them and say - it never HAD any meaning. This was the one that took fees off 100 people and passed 9 - yup 91% failure rate. AAT]
// all the numbers mean is how good ( or not ) you are at IQ tests - they don't actually measure intelligence.//

BA - standard view - they dont do much

also the view of some other exams - third year exam in Maff at Cambridge ( Part II Maff) - all it shows is you are good at the Maths final paper at Cambridge.....
well the winners ( 'wranglers' ) do nt seem to do much compared to the top of other european maff skoolz.

as one wrangler screwed his little innocent face up and said
oh you mean bourbaki
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolas_Bourbaki

And yes in case you wondered - there is a Part III maff ( one year course)
guess what the winners are good at?
Carpentry?
yes - - right !
carpentry
it does have content validity ( you know like an insurance law exam should be about er insurance law) - Part III maff - they are good at the Part III maff course ( Jim360 did one: look where he ended up)
yeah this should not be under 'science'
but voodoo or make-believe or somefing
Just take a butcher's at the roof of the Westminster Hall & see why carpentry requires infinitely more intelligence than those under it:

IQ tests prove your ability to pass IQ tests, they are not a measure of how intelligent you are.
Bob //well short of gaining mensa membership which is for top 2% rather than top14%.//
When I took the Mensa test a few years ago the qualifying IQ was 140
From the Mensa website,

"What is the pass score for Mensa?

You cannot pass or fail an IQ test – it is a measurement. Putting a number on IQ is not really helpful, as it depends on which particular test you took. There are many IQ tests available and their scoring scales vary – rather like comparing imperial and metric measurements.

On the Culture Fair test used by British Mensa, a score of 132 places a candidate in the top two per cent of the population (the average IQ is taken as 100).  On the Cattell B III, also commonly used by Mensa, a score of 148 or above would be required.  ***All Mensans are in the top two per cent by IQ whichever scale their intelligence was measured***" (my emphasis)

Corby, the test I took was set by, and overseen, by Mensa. I later received a letter, which I still have, notifying me that I had scored 138 which was two short of the qualifying score of 140.
most of the above means nothing without knowing the measure/test being used. Mensa tend to use the Catell B 3 and they admit the top 2 % that equates to 148%. Those above claiming 180/190 etc are probably to another scoring system. Yes I am in Mensa, I scored 156 on the CB3.
mamy: "To me, all the numbers mean is how good ( or not ) you are at IQ tests - they don't actually measure intelligence. " - that may be true with repetition but the "on sight" test is an accurate measure accepted in academia and industry all over the world.
11:14 ignore the % sign after 148, typo.
