I'm surprised the first dog wasn't picked up sharpish and whisked off to a restaurant.

McMouse - thats most probably why the other dog is guarding him (:0 )
whish my mad mutt was as loyal lol.
The second dog was possibly waiting for the traffic to die down so that he could eat the first dog?

Most likely one was a pup of the other and they don't 'know any different'.
That is so sweet and lovely and heart wrenching all at the same time.
