Ouch!
But it is a territorial dispute. Ukrainians insist the invaded land is obviously part of their nation, while the Russians insist it's part of their old empire and they're taking it all back, starting there.

If Emperor Putin could be conviced to go have a lie down after passing the reigns to someone sane then maybe things could get back to a pre-invasion state of affairs.
As OG says, the war is about a territorial dispute.

However I did expect better from DeSantis although I suspect he is playing up to the growing feeling in the USA that the money would be better spent at home rather than lining the pockets of the usual, which wars tend to do.

OG: So when Germany invaded Poland, France etc that was a territorial dispute was it? Right oh!
It's not a territorial dispute of course.
Putin would like to grab Ukraine as in his opinion it should be part of Ruzzia, but that does not make it what DeSantis says.

I was listening to a discussion among mostly Americans last night, all good people, many Republicans, all wondering how at last a large part of the GOP has come to this.
In fairness many prominent Republicans want nothing to do with this nonsense. The values that DeSantis and co, who claim to be patriotic Americans, are not American values. The appear to fetishise a fascist criminal who is the antithesis of everything the Founding Fathers stood for.
Ronald Reagan, who to my eternal shame I ridiculed during his presidency, must be spinning in his grave.
Of course it was. All invasions are.
Not as big a plonker as Donald Chump.

you really are a wally sometimes OG.
Ron DeSantis dismissing the Russian invasion as a "territorial dispute" is a bit like Putin describing it as a "special military operation".

If you think that Ukraine is part of Russia, then it is a territorial dispute. Very few countries think like that. The USA doesn't. I hope it stays that way ...

Ukraine has never been part of Russia though. It was part of the Soviet Union, that forced communist abomination.
Ukraine was part of the Russian empire. Actually several parts of what is now Russia used to be Ukraine.
Nearly country in the world recognises the sovereign territory of Ukraine, including Crimea.
DeSantis makes it sound like some suburban dust up between uppity neighbours, but if I thought my neighbour was occupying part of what I view as my land I’d probably take him to court. I wouldn’t try to burn his house down, shoot him and rape his wife and kids.
While accusing him of being a Nazi
Also on territorial disputes it’s normal for a sizeable number of people in the disputed area, ideally a majority, to have an idea of where they ought to be that is contrary to the status quo: in the 1991 referendum every oblast of Ukraine voted for independence, the closest being Crimea at 57%
“Overwhelmingly”
You can't just invade another country and then say "It's not a war, it's a territorial dispute." There are laws, you know!

In calling it a territorial dispute, DeSantis is ignoring the law, giving succour to Putin and a black eye to Ukraine ...
OG: So when Germany invaded Poland, France etc that was a territorial dispute was it? Right oh!

well the huns werent offering knitted peace yogurt were they
so yeah - territorial dispute

and anschluss ( union) with Austria WAS looked on as liberation er by some. and the division of Czecho-slovakia ( where dat den?) 1938 was looked on as a territorial dispute ( lebensraum).

even the durrs in my history class age 14 knew THAT
and yer fave Trump ( eek, oowwww)
said of Ukraine
They speak Russian there right so they are Russian

a quote not often repeated by AB trumpophiles
not russia but soviet union
oh god is this man a jesuit?

DeSantis makes it sound like some suburban dust up between uppity neighbours,

he de Santis doesnt ( as with Trump) wish to be drawn into a European conflict and is quite prepared therefore to serve up Ukraine to the Russians. ( no GI blood bvlaah dee blaah)

Even the durrs down my local ( The British Police Sergeant - nick named The Rutting Pig) know that

DeSantis and Trump both want to withdraw US support for Ukraine should they become president.

They never would have had any support in the first place had Trump won the last election.
As Mr Lineker might say - DeSantos sounds like some Nazis appeaser from the 1930s ;-)
I think Putin reasonably thought Trump ( they speak Russian so they're russian right) had given him the green light to invade
reclaim and liberate

Zelenski would have had to purge his 'intelligence services' as they all said, na na ( er nyet) forget it - he wont
