I have just returned from a spot of shopping. Its absolutely pouring down here....very heavy rain and its really quite cold, so not nice at all. There is localised flooding, and huge puddles everywhere.

And yet there is a small crown of teenagers walking down the hill, with no coats or hats at all ! The looked like drowned rats. These are probably the same kids that wear Puffa jackets and woolly hats in the height of summer.

Seems daft to me !

Snowing here :-(
The Met warning map showed no snow warning for here earlier, too.
I was the same when I was a teenager. You must have been born middle aged, mikey
that's kids for you, never do what you expect of them, hmmm
I saw someone, probably a parent, in shorts the other day when I went to pick Little Tiggs up from school. Pretty sure it was near freezing point at the time.
my nephews were out on the trampoline christmas before last, no shirts on, having a laugh and a good time, they expend so much energy, that its good for them.
admittedly it was freezing but they didn't seem to care, 9 and 11 now with not a care in the world.
My postman wears shorts all year round - he says it is much better than having wet trousers flapping round his legs.
Why do middle aged me wear shorts in winter? Sorry that's just weird and not a young person thing at all.

HC....not really.

I can remember my Mum buying me my first Cagoule when I was about 12-13. ( I seem to recall it was made in Norway ? )

They were quite new back then and rapidly took over from those awful gaberdine school raincoats, that we all used to wear....the ones that let all the rain in and never really dried out again.
My new (youngish) postie also wears shorts in the winter, even when we had quite thick snow - but always a woollen bobble hat!
See young lads coming/going to school every day with short sleeved shirts, no matter what the weather.
Mikey, I was at primary school during the awful winter of 62/63, and walked there wearing matching balaclava and mitts, knitted by my Mum. Whatever happened to balaclavas?!

It wasn't the cold that surprised me but the lack of anything too keep the rain off.

Yes, my Postie wears shorts in the winter but he always wears his waterproof coat if its raining.
I remember those gaberdine coats - they got so heavy when they were wet
Ah yes, the gaberdine, bought 'with room to grow' so almost trailing on the floor in the first year. As I had reached my full height by 12 I went through school shortening mine, the '60s, days of pubic pelmets. Who recalls those little attached purses?
When our daughter was working in a pub I would collect her around 11.30 in the middle of Bolton and had many a laugh at the girls in tiny frocks whatever the weather, arms folded under their boobs doing the Bolton Totter on high heels along Bradshawgate.
I had the green gaberdine coat with said purse for dinner money..
Yup us posties are a weird lol wore shorts everyday for 25 yrs when a postie... and now I'm 60 this year I still wear shorts most of the time something I'm used to I suppose

GoodGoalie....Yes, I can remember that winter very well. I was still in short trousers, as most boys were in those days. My Mum knitted me a Balaclava, and it itched like hell under the neck, so I didn't wear it unless she was looking !

Maggie...the young lads do that here as well !
Duffel coat for me complete with with Walrus tooth buttons (plastic, of course) and an emergency 2p sewn into the lining in case I lost my bus fare home.
we had green gaberdine macs as well, that was my school colours, yuck to think of it now.
Mitts on a string threaded through coat arms and grannies knitted balaclava
