I am intrigued by the number of people who troll and manage to maintain, to some extent, separate personas. Occasionally the mask slips and traits reappear and they are outed. I have an image of a wall with colour coded post-it notes with the biogs for each username that trolls use.

Boredom and pee taking for general merriment,sometimes for really nasty attacks. I hate to say it but this site is perfect for them - I know the moderation actually does a brilliant job - but we are encouraged not to doubt anybody plus the site is full of unbelievably sympathetic people - not me but I can't help that, I must be on the autistic spectrum somewhere :-)

We have had two 59 y olds posing as 16 y olds but writing grammatical English impossible for any teen ager

Retrochic is right. Real trolls are windup merchants seeking to start fights or spew bile. Just having multiple personalities is against AB rules but it isn't necessarily trolling. One was removed the other day along with an interesting question about what would happen if a chunk was removed from the Earth - actually an interesting question and not trolling at all, whoever the poster really was.
