A very Happy New Years Eve welcome to all , i realise many will be busy doing other things but the doors are open and the table is groaning with delights. A trip to the cellar has also produced some tasty tipples, this weeks guest tailcock is

' Old Long Sign' has a seasonal sense to it and a gentle sparkle that augurs good cheer.

For the Rofl :

2 Christmas crackers
Tin foil star
12 AAA batteries
Another bag of pine needles
2011 Calendar
pair of gloves (one green one purple)

I may be somewhat preoccupied this evening as have family staying in the coach house and a VIP in the west wing, so do no stand on ceremony and help yourselves to all treats.

Kate how lovely to see you if only for a short while, do have a pleasant evening and speak soon. Such gifts too, thank you.
OK OK Here's one for YOU now DT !! No match to yours but best I can do (with a blocked nose - sniff!)

DT, a crossword fanatic
Writes rhymes which are somewhat erratic
He plays his daft games
With all of our names
Making stories which sound quite dramatic!

Sorry - not very good is it ...... LOL :)

Bravo Ann!!
Spread along the Scottish AB valley
Amid the rolling hills
Lies a town that's stood for giveup eons
Through its good times and its ills

With its stately parish AB venator kirk
Its pubs, its bridges, and its Nungate walk
The ancient streets of Haddington
Breathe and sigh and Chatter talk

Through stormy times, through Ed's suspensions and burnings
Through trollish armies on the hoof
This Nungate citadel has suffered, plunged
And rose again, aloof

She's seen the glory of the AB moment
Disease and pain and Ed's enemy death
Mad Club Castle Walls surround, closed in, forsaken
Yet still she's left full of breath

Boxie, and Knoxie and rowanwitch
Jogger Jayne and more to boot
All famous women, who, through the AB itch,
Have given a common root

Now astride the AB e-highway
Nungate still is full of verve
Haddington , a town amidst the AB nation
She wants so much to swerve
Mamya, your hosting skills are as warm and welcoming as always But still waiting to be introduced to the VIP in the west wing. PS If I win the riffle I do not need any yellowing sprouts, have enough already
Night grasscarp
Just dropping by to wish 'Happy New Year' to each and all. I have found a bottle of 'Good French White' that appears to have been overlooked during the festive season so I'm sorted.
Mamya - is the VIP in the west wing Miss Haversham by any chance?
very good Ann......
Oh DT you are one smart cookie. How on earth did you know where it was I lived? You are also on point as regarding some of this town's ancient history. Cap doffed.
A Happy and prosperous New Year to you

I am sworn to secrecy re the important guest, but I can say they are being very well catered for, my little tartan slippers are fair worn through.
I did live north of you on the extremities of Fife for six years and "dined" at the small hoose there in Haddington....with the Scottish Riding Club, my gf being the local Pres (many years ago now!).

Last time in the area, I was staying at North Berwick and went to the local Marriott resort for golf and dinner.....
I'm intrigued to know which "small hoose" you dined in though. We have a few nice places to eat out around here so it could be one of many.
I always wave across to Fife when driving along the A1 well at least on the days when we can see it

Ode to Friends

A wonderful group of dear folk,
gather weekly for a laugh and a joke.
They make merry, wine, dine,
Have a high old time
Cared for by Matron - old soak.

There are animals too,
in fact almost a zoo.
Hump,Croc, Ellie and more,
Llamas arrive by the score.
Not to mention Alfie agouti too.

Tailcocks, Whisky and wine,
different vollies each time.
Game pies, Veal and Roast pork.
So just pick up your fork
and raise your glass of 'Old Long Sign'
The "big" hall!

There was a white tie ball there which we went too - you know what the country Scots are like for formality, though the reeling was good. Friends had and still have a whole "holiday" house (split into apts) overlooking the 17th of N Berwick and that's where we stayed - and where we stayed when we were last there, with his aged parents, effectively, my "second" family.
Good evening all, short visit from me, I bring a quarter of mushrooms, reduced in Morrisons, for the truffle, and a some cream only 2 days out of date for the trifle.
What is tonight's tailcock ?
Lennoxlove (the D of Hamiltons if I remember right, nungate....)

Sounds Glorious. I remember dancing eightsome reels on my auntie's lawn on New Year's morning, uncle played the pipes thankfully the neighbours had been invited to the party! Happy days. Have you been up here recently, you will notice many changes if you haven't, but in essence it's much the same
