Just Voted, 2 Cols, "Tie Break" - Why?

just been and voted, there were 2 columns on my paper but only one candidate and you can vote the same twice. Apparently it's in case there's a draw but I don't understand why anyone would not vote for the same candidate twice so that makes it irrelevant. It was for Police and crime commissioner, gawd elp us more of St Tony's project.

That's not the reason.

"The votes are counted in each PCC area. If a candidate has won more than 50% of first preferences they are elected.

If no candidate has won more than 50%, all but the top two candidates are then eliminated.

Any second preferences for the top two candidates from the eliminated candidates are added to the two remaining candidates' totals. Whoever has the most votes combined is declared the winner."

Obviously a stupid idea, but it was a Conservative one.
Tony had long gone by the 2010 General Election when Cameron proposed Police and Crime Commissioners. The first elections were in 2012 under the Coalition Government.

sunk/bob, fair enough didn't realise it was Dave. Regardless of party I hate all these extra things to elect, kin devolved parliaments, mayors, kin police commissioners, more snouts and trotters in the trough for no actual benefit. I voted because I'd rather have a Tory one than a Labour one but really it's a bl33din stupid idea.

There is absolutely no point in voting for the same candidate twice as only the second preferences of eliminated candidates will be counted.

9 years ago I voted NOT to have a Mayor in Manchester. Cameron ignored the result and imposed one anyway.

I will take great delight in re-electing our excellent Labour Mayor.

DANNY, if there were only one candidate, why would there be the need for an election?

If no second choice is an option in that example, why would it be there for only the one candidate?
