Yes folks, 2021 is a CENSUS year. March 21st is the day, but you will receive a letter well before that allegedly. And from the results we can glean lots of useless information, for example in 2011 for Canary42's borough :-

120,684 people lived there.
36,344 (65%) drove a car or a van to work.
There were 74 fitness instructors.
There were 196 different ethnicities.
The top occupation was sales and retail assistant (2,989).
24 people were conservation and environmental associate professionals.
There were 2,396 families with 3 or more dependent children.

I think the 2016 Public Health England profile of your borough is rather more telling about what it's like than the census figures are, Canary42.

It was shown to be significantly worse than the national averages in terms of
 Children from low income families;
 GCSEs achieved;
 Violent crime;
 Smoking status at time of delivery of a baby;
 Excess weight in adults;
 Hospital stays for self-harm, and;
 Recorded diabetes.

I know, it's excrutiating. I can remember waiting for the release of the 1891 Census, so that's how long I have been mucking about with this stuff.

The Census in Scotland will be taking place in March 2022, not this year.

1851 is the only one where the households are underlined ( useful for odd or truncated copies)

I did a lot of reading not of pages but of areas - or whole censuses of a town, and as the articles suggest - got some crazy answers

one yorkshire farmer had a 'concubine'
one commented " they say they are all skilled but I think not one of them has ever been employed (*) "
another: " this is a rookery and I think no man has any occupation besides thieving"

ma gt grannie is down in one as 'Bregena' - Bridge-eena instead of Bridget - that took a year or so to find. When the census taker came round, I reckon she was at work and no one knew bridg's long name so they came up with bregena

another I hesitate to record was 'Phenis' - and I read later that Phineas was pronounced very near to Venus, at the time - and I surmise no one knew how to spell Phenis so down it went as that

Seems a good idea to me if we know how many youngsters will need schooling, how many elderly people will require state pensions etc.

Will you have to tick British when it comes to nationality, because there is no box to say you are English.

One of the questions asks for the country you were born in and England is one of the options. I cannot see any question asking for your nationality.

Sorry TLC I was referring to,previous Census forms , I have not seen the present 2021 version , can just remember over the years people getting fined for crossing out the word British and inserting English.

The same question and English option were on the 2011 Census.
