Long story...
Yesterday, we had an emergency call to a patient with Cardiac Arrest. We raced to the scene in a Response Car as our Ambulance was off road due to a bright spark mechanic taking the keys home with him. Anyway, after a lot of hard work by the three crews involved we managed to get output back on the patient, and rushed her into hospital. My crewmate went in the back, and I followed the Ambulance in my car, and arrived at the hospital 2 minutes after they did. The ambulance bay was very busy so I wasn't willing to take up a space with my car, and the Police/Ambulance slots in the car park were full with Police and Ambulance cars.
I parked my marked response car in the normal visitors car park. As I got out of the car a woman in a Citreon people carrier pulled up in front of me and asked if I was going to be long. I said about 10-15 minutes and she started shouting about how there is ambulance parking already and we shouldn't be taking up car parking spaces in the public car park

The world
Is cull of self
Centred idiots Bob. It's best just to forget about them.
So how did you respond to her?
Question Author
cont....
I (politely) pointed out that the ambulance bay was full, and that I was fully entitled to park my car in the car park. As she drove off she shouted that "f***ing ambulance men, think they own the road!!"
I went over to my crewmate and the other crew to find out how the patient was, then went to grab some kit and a cuppa. Me and my crewmate, along with a copper and another paramedice went to the little 'secret' NHS smoking area by A+E. As we crossed the road I had already put the fag in my mouth, and the Citreon woman drove past. She leaned out of how window and shouted "You're really f***ing busy, f***ing ambulance c***s". It took my crewmate grabbing me by my collar, and the copper writing down her number plate to stop me chasing after her and pointing out ( a little less politely) that 20 mins ago I was jumping up and down on somebodies chest, in a cramped space in the corner of an office in an attempt to save someones life.

Excuse the rant, I'm still angry about it now.
Bobs, this rates with the idiots who try to outrun blue-light vehicles, just for a laugh. Just hope it's not that woman or her family that you have to resus some day.

Mazie, our next job of the day (once we got the keys for our proper ambulance back) was collecting a mentalist woman who has a history of attacking emergency service personnel with razor blades, after she had 'taken' an overdose
Btw... I love you too. :-)

Fancy a ****?
there BJ - justice :)
I dont envy what you do, I just know the ones I've met have been brilliant and you'll cope, you have to. Most of us have no idea about the disturbed folks out there. We have a bit of a clue because we post on CB...

Oh and get a room Nom ;o)
Question Author
Mazie, I'd love to get a room with NoM, alas mileage is an issue at present.

Thanks for your support though, and please don't think I'm grumbling about my job. I love what I do, and this has given me more job satisfaction in 3 months than 10 years in the RAF :D
Ahem... the starred out word was "custard cream."

Bob... some people don't appreciate the work of the emergency services. I know what a fantastic job you are doing, and just how much you are dedicated to the job. x x
