A man, his wife, and seven children were waiting in a bus stop. After some time a blind man joins them.
The bus arrives. The blind man and the large family find themselves walking because of the crowded bus.
The blind man starts tapping his stick on the road, which seems to annoy the husband who shouts at the blind man...

"Can't you put a rubber to the end of your stick to avoid that irritating noise?"

To this, the blind man replies...

"If you would have put a rubber to the end of your stick we all would have been in the bus."

I am having trouble understanding what happened when the bus came. Why did the blind man not get on the bus if all the large family didn't get on it either?
I think crowded bus is the clue.
i cant imagine a crowded bus not stopping for a blindman
Blind or not, where are you going to put him if the bus is full ... on the roof rack.?
Question Author
No room on the bus for anyone to get on.
Single decker or double decker? Was it the 57 route to St Ives because that gets packed quite often with all the people wanting to go there?
Question Author
Single decker think, not sure where it was going
Well done marval ... someone had to step in..!

Thank you alavahalf, thought I had better
Haha what a great joke marval!
If there was no room to get on it didnt matter that the family had 7 kids or just one kid, no one would have got on anyway. Just another crappy build up to a crap joke.
What a shock eh readers?
Sorry, I am still confused.

The so called punchline tells us that because the family had a lot of children, the blind man did not get on the bus. I do not see how the two things are related. If the bus was full then nobody was getting on it and it is not the families fault, if there were spaces then the blind man would have got on it. The only other scenario is that part of the large family did get on the bus but this is specifically excluded earlier in the joke when it is written that "the large family find themselves walking".
Because the family had so many kids, only some of them could get on the bus. The rest of the family and the rest of the queue had to walk as there were no seats left on the bus. Although, it loses its humour if you have to explain it.
How dose a blind man know when a bus is coming.
Being blind doesn't mean they can't tell the time. He would know to get to the bus stop at the appropraite time.
