Would you?
Apparently there’s a petition started early July gathering momentum , no link because that’s kinda advertising them, it’s about not paying your energy bills
Personally I wouldn’t because it will certainly have ramifications for those that do

What do you think?

I doubt I could sleep as soundly as I do Peter , not paying
I wouldn't do it either, it can't be legal to not pay.

Eeee, I just love this pre text haha
they'll start by suing the poorest and work their way up, I expect. Nobody's going to sue Amazon.
i dont get it - would those people go to the shops and just take things too if they thought food/clothes/shoes were too expensive?
Wouldn't stop paying but am cancelling my DD. They can bill me for what I use. Friend's DD went up by £30 per month despite being almost £400 in credit. She asked to have this paid back but they weren't happy. How much do these firms make in interest from other people's money?
Maggie British Gas gave me money back unasked. It just appeared in my bank account and they also reduced my DD. I must say I was surprised.
Becareful when cancelling your DD - most tariffs are discounted on the condition that you pay by DD - by cancelling the DD the prices will rise further

Actuall thst could sway me Maggie, I’m nearly £500 in credit with aeon Next but doesn’t mean if you don’t pay by DD the tariff is higher ? I’d rather be billed if it isn’t

Sorry Bobbs this is slightly off topic but does anyone know if any utility companies offer a cheaper night rate? I know they used to but couldn't make head nor tail of all the guff when I tried to check a couple of nights ago.
Most providers charge more if you don't pay by monthly DD.
My provider pays me interest on any credit in my account.

If you do decide to change the way you pay be sure to inform them before you cancel direct debits.
Hi Bobbs and all. I'm with eon next and £220 in credit with gas. Happy to leave it, DD gone up to £48 monthly. Lecy is privately metered.

I'm sure you get a modest discount by paying with DD's.

No, I shall not stop paying.

That used to be the case ladybirder where you could go on a comparison site to get a better deal, I don’t think that happens now
