I have swung between a size 8-22, I have sat next to people who needed seatbelt extenders on flights all around the globe.

Reading this article is just depressing that other human beings can be so cruel to make another feel so bad.

All can empathise with swinging weights - I can. This lady has done all sorts of things to ease her journey except for one thing - lose some weight. Yes, I know it is hard, especially after the menopause when it seems almost impossible, quite frankly. Having said that, people can be very cruel and, yes it is depressing that they make someone feel so bad.

I read this earlier today and totally felt her pain, I have been shouted at, spat at and mocked purely because I was fat and did not fit in with others idea of what I should be.
Sitting on a plane was my worst nightmare! I used to sit in the window and hubby would take the middle seat so that I would not encroach or upset anyone else - but I have had people tell me I am not sitting next to them (just in case I was)
People seem to think that because you are fat that they can say and do what they want to you because when you get fat you lose your feelings!

My weight change had nothing to do with food it was purely down to medication, I don't and won't judge others weight as it is not my business and I don't know what is behind it.

That's the thing Eccles...people make assumptions about *why* someone is overweight, and further assumptions about how they should lose it. Oh...and they will also assume it's oh-so-easy. This woman's words are painful to read...the comments are truly horrifying.

No, of course not, eccles. I didn't say that and I agree that people can be horribly and unnecessarily cruel. I would never comment, myself (I'm not a sylph). Just that she might do herself a bit of good socially (and healthwise of course) if she did.

^^ Steroids have an awful effect on weight - I remember a (stick-insect) friend who ballooned. One of the reasons why I would never comment on anyone's size.

She's said she's 60lbs lighter than previously...so she has been doing something. We have no idea why she is big...there can be many complex reasons, both physical and emotional.

I assume the woman writing this is 'clinically obese' and WELL over a size 22! I knew a man who was 38 stone , there was no way it would have been possible for him to fit into an aircraft seat. This woman is probably around the same weight as my , now deceased , friend.
The photo in the link is not of the actual person, it says it has been posed!

Sorry Eddie but I struggled to fit into an airline seat and did not weigh 38 stone - to say she weighs that much is wrong and to play guess games with her weight is wrong too!
