Am I a racist ?
I am proud to be English and I am proud to be white. Does that make me a racist ?

The true racist will never see himself as being a racist.
As the nazis didnt see themselves as racists thye saw themselves as nationalists and proud of their heritage.
You can judge for yourself wether they were or were not .
All ill say is they persecuted gypseys and jews and poles and russians , in fact any race that wasnt their own.
Even to the extent of inestigating peoples geneology to see if they had any jewish bloodline in them.
So in answer to your question i would say you have brought the word racist into the debate and possibly invited the accusations rather than just posting you were white amnd proud and was there anything wrong with that.
But by using the word racist in the initial post you either deliberately or inadevrtantly opened the is he or isnt he a racist debate when in reality there was no neeed to.
And if you read all the varying replies and the way the thread has decended i think you might see that.
Then again you might not.
But on your post alone i couldnt say either way if you were racist , without you expressing your opinions on things like the nazis , the holocaust , slavery , aid for africas starving and your views on the facist organisations like the bnp and the national front.

As a white,Engish,Irish,Italian and native American....American....I am proud of ALL the diversity that is in my family tree. It is what makes me who I am.
But there is no way that I would claim to be better-or for that matter-worse than any other racial or cultural group. THAT may be one of the benefits of growing up in a multi-cultural society. Oh-there are teething pains when each 'new' group starts to make itself heard.....but the end result can be SO rewarding .....we ALL learn to be proud of whatever it is that makes us special.
Being proud of what you are does not MAKE anyone racist.........the proof is in how you treat those who are different from you.

So, to reply : Nazis WERE racists (see below). The Holocaust did happen and was a crime against humanity; slavery was and is an evil; and I approve of aid to starving Africans or anyone else as long as the aid goes to those who need it and not the vultures along the way.
My dictionary's definition of a racism is :
' A hostile attitude or behaviour to members of other races, based on a belief in the inate superiority of ones own race.'

I think it is down to the way we treat every single individual who we meet, no matter what their race. You can't judge a race by the actions of a few individuals - good or bad.
However, I do feel that some extremists want people in this country (UK) to judge every Muslim as hostile, dangerous and out to destroy us. That is why I again call for Muslim moderates to stand up and cut out the cancer from their midst before the extremists succeed.

I haven't invented anything that changed the world. I haven't done or said anything that inspired millions or people to re-examine their moral codes and become 'better' people.
How can you be 'proud' to be white. Or black. Or asian. Or any other colour?
I accept that you can take inspiration from your ancestors and look in wonder and awe at their achievements but that cannot make you 'proud' because by doing so, you're attempting to bathe in their reflected glory.
Best to be the best the you can be and not rely nor rest on your past achievements.

I'm English/British/European/Of the world. I am these things because my fathers sperm impregnated my my mothers egg.
I'm no better than any other race, i'm just luckier than some. My parents happened to be in a place that has free health care and support for the poor and free education.
