This is what happens to an isolationist country, that has no interest maintaining good trading relationships with its close neighbours, and its citizens told how important sovereignty is.

Can you think of any other nation that has deliberately made trading with its nearest and largest trading partners more difficult recently – with their government touting sovereignty as justification for this? And where many of the poorest in that country are struggling to feed themselves, having to resort to food-banks.

The OP is a good one, and one which deserves sensible discussion without being derailed by the great and the good. That, of course, unlike other similar sites, is not permitted by the Site Rules. At least we should count our blessings that AB's resident obsessive hasn't suggested that it's the SNP's fault!

The situation for the people in North Korea is absolutely desperate. It matters not one jot how far away the country is.
