… and one in a critical condition - and it appears the authorities think there might be others so are still searching. Let's hope they're wrong. What an appalling tragedy. Just young kids having fun in the ice and snow Those poor families. Devastating.

On no! I didn't realise they had died. How utterly devastating.

It is an utter tragedy.

Sadly, standing water in the UK rarely freezes to a thickness that will stand any weight, although of course that can't be judged by sight.

We can only hug our own children closer, and feel for those poor parents, especially those who wait for their little ones' bodies to be recovered.
I cannot imagine what those poor families are going through, so very sad. Two children still missing, what a tragedy.
Absolutely tragic and I fear more children must be missing for the search to have continued.
Stay safe everyone.
Children will of never thought of the extreme danger they were in, what a tragedy , 4 lives gone and may be more as divers out looking, my thoughts a prayers go to their families at this awful time
Blood on the hands of the irresponsible adults who led the way.
Distressing news for everyone. I pity the families and friends of the children whoever they are, and can only imagine what the emergency services and medics endured whilst attempting rescue. Sadly the rescue mission is now a recovery mission. So, so tragic.
Very sad news, makes me shudder when I think of the silly things we did as kids - including checking and walking on ice lakes!

What adults? I haven't read that.
What devastating news. RIP.
Those poor children, what a terrible thing to happen to them.
In the summer, we warn children and adults about swimming in the lakes and rivers and hopefully, parents and teachers will warn about stepping onto frozen water like this.
R.i.p. little boys.
Whatever happened to the public safety broadcasts on tv? Don't suppose they would be very effective these days with so many tv channels and streaming.
Tragic accident, water attracts people whatever the weathet.
What I find puzzling is the fact that they think there might be more children in the pond. Surely if there were any more children missing their parents would have reported it by now.
It is a fact that two of the group are missing.
The police said at the press conference to-day that no-one has come forward to report anyone is missing still.
Oh
The only articles I have read say the upto 6 might have been involved. I am very sure that if my child had been out yesterday and not come home by now I would be informing the police that it was missing.
oh god werent you told as kids that ice on ponds would break, and that people who rescued you would also break the ice and be swept in?

and if you ARE driven to go out ( conviction to save life or something) you have to lie face down and do an X crawl to distribute weight. video of people doing this

The 5th paragraph down at the side says they do not think anyone else is missing but are continuing to search to br 100 % sure
Some lakes are formed by a river which flows in one end & out the other, I don't know if that is the case here, but the terrible thing on such a lake (or a river itself) is a person falling through can be swept along under the remaining solid ice sheet by the current.

It really doesn't bear thinking about.
